Over the next few days we will highlight our Inspectors' daily struggle in our WAR AGAINST CHAINING.
During pro active work in Missionvale yesterday, our Inspector Clayton managed to free a number of dogs from their tethers, issuing stern written warnings to the owners.
Unfortunately not even a tortoise was spared a cruel existence. The tortoise was removed and will be rehabilitated and released into the wild, where it belongs.
We remind public that a permit from DEDEA is necessary to own any wildlife in the Eastern Cape.
Our beautiful Coco is still praying for a home. She is only 2 years old, but has been through such sadness.
Coco was tethered around the waist and later the rope became embedded, almost severing the bottom half of her body and limbs. Watch her story here below.
Please whatsapp us if you would like to meet this sweet girl: 041 4561776. ๐ค
Just imagine the suffering if our Field Team was not on the ground to take action ....
Confinement or chaining is no life worth living.
Recently, the owners of these pups had to immediately secure the yard so that the pups could come out of the cage. They were also taken to our clinic to be sterilized.
Unnecessary confinement and chaining are offences in terms of the Animal Protection Act.
It is often believed that owning a powerbreed is cool, without knowing anything about the particular breed.
Don't be a fool. There is nothing cool about being cruel.
Look at the joy the dog experiences when Clayton took its chain off.
Imagine a living area of less than 1m x 1m and the utter boredom, day in and out. ๐ฅฒ
Say NO to chaining.
YES to dogs living in closed/fenced yards.
We have seen indigent dog owners using wooden pallets, bread baskets, spring mattresses etc. to make fences. It can be done. Where there is a will, there is a way. ๐
Poverty is no excuse for animal abuse.
๐ **Heartfelt Thanks to Our Dedicated Veterinary Team!** ๐
Just a sneak peek of what our veterinary team is doing inside our clinic.
Their compassion and commitment make a world of difference for both pets and their owners. In areas where resources are scarce, their efforts in delivering medical care, vaccinations, and education ensure that many animals get the chance to live a healthier, happier life.
Together, we are making the world a better place, one paw (or hoof) at a time. ๐พโค๏ธ
We need soft, tinned dog ๐ and cat ๐ฑfood for our clinic patients please. Any brand will do.
Should anyone wish to donate, kindly drop the tins at our Bargain Box shop, corner of Main Road and 9th Avenue, Walmer or at our Cleary Park Clinic. Thank you. ๐
Coco loves her walks and is a very sweet, loving 2 year old female. ๐
She would like to have her own home and she is sterilized and vaccinated already.
Coco's story started when she was cruelly tethered to the waist with a rope cutting into her flesh. Please share this post so that we can find her a happy, ever after. ๐
Whatsapp 0414561776 to get more info and pictures of her.
We are ending the week on a happy note. ๐
Earlier this week, the SAPS informed us of various farm animal species living in appalling conditions.
We found ducks and geese living in dark, dirty pens, unable to express their natural behaviour.
We had tears in our eyes when we saw the birds being released at a safe house, entering water for the first time. ๐
We have a baby bunny ๐ฐ looking for a home.
Please whatsapp us on 0414561776 if you would like to meet this fluffy baby.
We are not yet 100% sure if the bunny is a male or female, because it is so tiny. ๐
Listen to our Oz explaining what a bunny needs:
๐ฐLots of space to move around safely such as a run or room. Cages are for traveling and sleeping only. No animal should live in a cage.
๐ฐBunnies should preferably have a friend as they live in colonies in the wild and enjoy company.
๐ฐBunnies must be fixed (sterilized) to prevent unwanted litters. Our clinic can assist @ R700.
๐ฐProper diet. We can advise what a healthy bunny needs to eat.
Happening now in our clinic .... kitties, kitties everywhere ๐
Don't forget to make use of our May cat sterilization special. Only R550 for males or females, including raibies vaccination. ๐โโฌ

Seeking a home to rewrite Coco's story.
When Coco was rushed into our clinic, her croup and hind legs were almost severed from the rest of her body. ๐ข
Coco was cruelly chained up by the waist and with time, the rope became more and more embedded, cutting tighter and tighter into the flesh of her little body.
Our veterinary team vowed that her life should not end this way, not on that day - that they would fix her ... and so they did.
As the days past, Coco's physical scars started to heal, but her emotional scars will take time and patience to recover.
We would love to rewrite her story and find this 2 year old, sterilized, female a loving forever home.
Please help us to share her story for a new home, so that, together, we can fix her. โค๏ธ

(We confirm that charges, ito the Animal Protection Act 71 of 1962, are still pending against her former owners)
Dogs deserve better.
This is just one of the dogs we assisted yesterday. Fieldworker Clayton ensured that the dog was immediately taken off the chain, was given water, could go and lie in the shade and that a warning was issued to the owners.
Our Inspectorate/Fieldwork team issues hundreds of warnings every month for chained dogs.
A chained dog cannot protect itself or others from harm, is often injured and suffers mentally from stress, frustration and boredom.
Chaining is illegal and an offence in terms of the Animal Protection Act 71 of 1962.
We also wish Janette a very happy birthday! ๐ฅณ Janette and Bryan run Izinja, working in the Wells Estate informal settlement. They bring animals to us for sterilization on a weekly basis.
*** Update 24.11.2023 at 8.00: Unfortunately we have NOT FOUND the injured cow. It is not with the herd. Thank you to everyone who is helping to look. ****
*** Update At 14:00 : We found the herd but not the injured cow - not with its herd. Please let us know. Nguni cow, white with brown markings and spots. ***
Motorists, we need your help please.
A herd of Nguni cows was spotted in Morningside yesterday. The one cow has difficulty putting weight on its one leg.
We would like to assist it but we cannot seem to find the herd today.
Please whatsapp us if spotted: 041 4561776
We also need the owner to contact us.
No animal should roam as this only causes injury to both the animal and people.
All creatures matter. ๐ญ
Please don't use cruel glue traps or poison to get rid of rodents.
Not only do the mice /rats suffer tremendously before they die, other animals (such as pets and wild birds) eating on the carcasses, also get sick and die.
Many Chinese and hardware stores sell these little humane catch- and -release traps for only R65. Remember to check the trap twice a day, once set.
Have no suitable place to release them, cannot or don't want to?
Please bring them to our Clinic. Our veterinary staff will gladly assist to humanely euthanize the rodents, to prevent further suffering, free of charge.

Yesterday our veterinary team assisted a patient with a huge tumor. We are happy to report that she is recovering well. ๐
Bayworld Otter
Over the last few months, we have been contacted by many concerned members of the public regarding the Otter kept at Bayworld.
The Cape Clawless Otter is kept in an enclosure in the snake park section of the government owned facility. We have reached out to wildlife rescue organisations and the Aspinall Foundation has kindly offered to assist in translocating the otter to a more natural environment, albeit in captivity, as the otter cannot be released.
We have been in contact with Bayworld and informed them of the offer made. We now hope for a positive outcome.
