As we commemorate World Cancer Day on the 4th of February, we would like to highlight bladder cancer in dogs this year. The most common bladder cancer is a Transitional Cell Carcinoma found in the bladder and/or the urethra. We would like to invite you to bring your dog in for a a quick ultrasound screening for R500, especially if they are an at risk breed.
At risk breeds are Scottish Terriers, Collies, Beagles, Shetland Sheepdogs and Airedale Terriers.
Risk factors are exposure to certain herbicides and insecticides, being overweight, periodontal disease and inflammatory conditions of the bladder.
Research has recommended screening be done every 6 months in at risk breeds over the age of 5 years.
For this World Cancer Day we will do screenings for R500, including a consultation and ultrasound check of the bladder.
