Desensitisation is such an important tool in assisting pets to cope with situations where they feel uncomfortable.

We've had 1 unplanned session and 2 planned sessions with Gaara and can already see a marked improvement.

He is such a gentle soul and we are please that he is enjoying his vet visits a bit more.

Our next step is getting him used to being handled on the consult table as he still does not enjoy it.

Thank you to Gaara's dad for taking the time to work with him and for doing such a great job at teaching him.

A large number of our clients struggle with jumping dog. This is not just a problem with puppies, but with adult dogs as well.

The most important thing is to ignore a puppy / dog that is jump up. Reward the pup/dog for doing an appropriate behaviour like sitting.

Giving a puppy / dog attention while jumping up will reward the behaviour.

Consistency is key. This "rule" should be implemented by all the people in the household as well as other people meeting your puppy / dog.

The importance of play in socialisation of puppies.

Most people know how important play is for a young and developing human baby. Have you considered how important play is for the socialisation of your puppy?

Play is a relaxed and feel good way to teach puppies about the human world around them. Constructive , positive play is a vital part of the Valley Farm Puppy classes

We give puppies the chance to approach new and sometimes scary situations in a fun and positive way, giving them the necessary skills they will need going forward to deal with these encounters in their lifetime.

We focus on play and positive reinforcement by exposing puppies to:
Different textures
Different sounds
Greetings (dogs and people)
Being handled (putting leash on after play)
Different toys (moving and stationary)
Different challenges (cavaletti poles, tunnel etc.)

Well done to Lexi & Beemo who graduated puppy school last night.

Lexi is an inspiration to all of us - she did not allow her disability to slow her down or hinder her in any way. Her love of life shows in everything she does.

Beemo was our shy girl. She has built so much confidence she even played with the other pups

We are excited to introduce the first intake into our fully revised 8 week Puppy School Course.

Our course covers the basic cues like SIT, DOWN, WALKING ON LEASH as well as common behavioural issues owners encounter like JUMPING.

During our course we equip puppies with the skillset needed to be a well rounded pup in a human world. Puppies have the opportunity to build confidence while having fun exploring various obstacles.

Our first intake will be on 10 March. Please feel free to contact us if you require more information.

Our pups had some fun last night in Puppy Class.

Lexi the Ridgeback x is blind. She however does not allow her disability to keep her from having fun in class and the other pups don't mind playing with her as her enthusiasm is contagious.
