Great news from the veld!

On Thursday, we finally managed to trap the last kitten from the same group where two others were caught last week. He’s very scared right now, but we know he will soon realise he is safe.

Even better — the last adult (mommy) was also trapped yesterday and sterilised and vaccinated this morning.

This was a team effort.
A huge thank you to Susan & her daughter Melinda for spotting and feeding them and reaching out to us for help. Thank you also to Annie & Dirk for helping us with the trapping!

Mommy and kittens are now reunited, safe and warm.

🌟 Meet Marcello — previously known as the “Newlands Daddy”!

This battle-scarred old tom has seen it all: years of street fights (and leaving others with hefty vet bills), barely any teeth left, and even surviving being hit by a car. Despite many rescue attempts, he always managed to slip away — until recently, when we finally trapped him while searching for a missing pet.

Marcello is now sterilised, but because he isn’t the friendliest neighbour, it wouldn’t have been safe to return him to the colony. So he’s staying with us, safe and warm, with soft beds and food on tap — no more foraging or fighting for survival.

We will give him all the time, love and patience he needs to learn to trust people again.
