I have been notified that an adopter is unhappy with my rats. They allegedly had diarrhea and smelled like rot. Also a Siamese was "dirty" but as we know acromelanism changes the colour. The harley had scratches, but unfortunately I can not change that, their skins are very prone to being scratched by other rats.
Now.... It's fine to trash my name online on rat groups, but to NOT contact me is a red FLAG, especially after we agreed that if there are any issues to let me know. I never had rats suffering from diarrhea in my rattery. I feed a strict diet. If an adopter feeds them I cannot take responsibility. The adopter did not raise concerns when they were here and my flatmate was present and knows that they were happy enough. Now, I had to read online about my terrible rats on another group.
I spent around an hour with them. They did not decline nor raise concerns.
So before trashing a breeder, at least let them know. It's important because 2 of the rats are from other breeder lines.
I feel blindsided. And frankly I want my rats back. I cannot trust that they are fed correctly. The rule of thumb is to steadily change their diet.
I do agree one had an abscess, so I offered another in it's place. But rats do get scratched and could develop abscesses even in the best of care.
There are not many ratteries left. We have lost a couple of genes. And this is a kick in the face. I prefer being informed on the issue and help resolve a problem. But reading it knowing my rats by sight, was a low blow. I will fully own up to mistakes, but wow.....
