Restrictions:

No vehicles beyond designated parking areas. No petrol driven, bikes, quads, mopeds without exception. No fires please, (extinguish and carry your “stompies”). No capture or picking of Fauna and Flora permitted. No Hunting. Protective gear:

Regulation Helmets compulsory for all cyclists. Protective clothing is strongly recommended. Closed walking/running shoes with socks! Many different varieties of thorns, sharp seeds and nettles grow in the thick brush in places so it is not necessary to expose yourself to unnecessary injury if you can avoid it. Sandals and Flip-Flops are therefore not suitable for an enjoyable walk anywhere on this farm. It is recommended that walkers and hikers wear comfortable walking shoes or boots with socks. The trails are rocky and strenuous in places and ankle supportive footwear will avoid possible injury. Besides, there are, ticks, biting insects and scorpions on the farm. Remember you’re in Africa! right? There are venomous snakes on the property and although most will be hibernating during autumn and winter, visitors are encouraged to be alert at all times (especially pedestrians). They are shy, elusive and very seldom seen but they are there! Safety and Security:

Of late there have been more and more incidents of crime at venues similar to ours through out Gauteng. It appears that the criminal elements in this province are fast becoming aware of the vulnerability of ordinary law abiding citizens who just want to enjoy the outdoors. Regretfully in our beautiful country we may never let our guard down. At Hedianga Farm we are fortunate in that we do not have large concentrations of suburban habitation in close proximity. Nor are there any main pedestrian or access routes in and around the area or through Hedianga Farm. Although we have many neighbours, most of them are privately owned up market homes where no expense has been spared on security. We do benefit greatly by being surrounded by a security aware community. Fortunately since opening our gates 5 years ago during the month of May in 2011 we have had no incidence of crime at Hedianga farm. We appeal to our guests to help us keep it that way! We therefore beg of our guests to never the less remain alert and responsible when visiting our beautiful place of peace and if you feel at all uncomfortable about any observations you may make or any activity or person who looks “suspect” please do not be shy to call it in, either by cell phone or reporting it at the gate when you leave. Recommended safety precautions to bear in mind when entering Hedianga farm.
• If you are not very familiar with the terrain or trails of the farm please do not take on a trail that might cause you to be on the trails after nightfall. We recommend that our “first time” visitors not attempt any walk longer than the 5km one.
• Our reception staff have their own cell phones, and are instructed to have them charged and on hand when they are on reception duty. Please ask the person on duty for their number and save it on your phone as a precautionary measure. Take your phone with you, hidden on your person if possible. It’s of no use to you locked in your car if heaven forbid you are in need of assistance. When you complete your entry ticket you are requested to fill in your personal details including your contact/cell number. Our staff have been instructed to phone you our guests, at this number in the event that you do not emerge within two and a half to three hours after entry into the farm or should you not return before nightfall.
• Be alert at all times and be careful to follow the demarcated trails. Try to make mental notes of landmarks around you and try to remember long distance views as you walk along to assist you in keeping your bearings and sense of direction.
• If you lose the trail then turn around and go back until you find the marker you last saw.
• Greet and engage and chat with fellow guests. Talking to and greeting others makes a more impressionable memory than just a simple nod if such memories need to be called up at a later stage. Besides many new friendships and play dates between dog owners have been made at Hedianga Farm already.
• If you are a late afternoon guest please bring a head lamp! Indemnity / Disclaimer
