He's getting so much love and attention, more than he's probably gotten ever before.

I feel like I need to vent a bit.....

So please excuse me, but, as they say in Afrikaans, I AM GATVOL!!

You try and educate people, give them the correct advice and be calm about it, as after all, it is the 21st century and we can do proper research while sitting on your couch before getting an animal.

So firstly, I want to start with our exotics. We decline a lot, and I mean a lot of homes as people do not read our info sheets or take us seriously when we try and guide them on the correct care, set ups and food for our critters. Petshops selling them without being sterilized or doing home checks, people getting tired after a month when they realise how much work they are, or the petshop didn't know anything about exotics and told them they are getting 2 females and 3 months later they have 13 and then we get an email 9pm on a Sunday evening: "It breaks my heart but I want to donate my 13 guinea pigs to your organization. Please come and get them tomorrow."

Or we get this: "BUT I'VE HAD A LOT OF HAMSTERS OVER THE YEARS!"

OK, good for you, not so much for the hamsters. The question is..... HOW MANY HAMSTERS HAVE YOU HAD OVER THE YEARS? Instead of..... How many years have you had a hamster for!

Then we get to these brain farts who post on the community groups..... ANYONE HAVE A KITTEN TO GIVE AWAY.

Yes dear, the SPCA or your local shelter but you have to pay an adoption fee which cover the sterilization and vaccination and is way cheaper than what you will pay at a vet.

But I don't have money for an adoption fee! Or....... I was declined!

You don't have money but you want a kitten for free. What will the kitten eat? If the kitten gets sick, how will you pay for a vet.

Then, lastly, our biggest problem in RSA....... I WANT DAWG!

Or..... Free to a good home!

Or..... on every second community page..... PUPPIES FOR SALE!!!

Thousands of dogs die at the SPCA every month. The statistics will give you nightmares. Yet, we still buy from breeders, as they are "ethical' and we still get free puppies on FB and a week later they die of parvo.

Rescuers are tired, over capacity and struggling. But instead instead we support our local pubs every weekend and spend an amount of money that can feed an entire shelter of animals for a week.

Every second person is "immigrating" and can't take their animals with.

Do you think we haven't heard your story before and that we are so stupid to believe your BS!

I know I'm preaching to the wrong crowd, but I have to get this off my chest.

When are we going to wake up????

When are we as an educated society going to say "ENOUGH"?

When will our government say it is enough? Enough abuse, enough neglect!!!

If you can't feed yourself or stay in a proper house with a proper yard and walls, then in that event, no animals, especially dogs!!!!

Wake up and smell the coffee..... OUR ANIMALS ARE SUFFERING!!!
