WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE HELP, SUPPORT AND PRAYERS DURING THE WEEKEND'S VELD FIRE AT OUR KENNELS!
On Friday afternoon, we watched with growing concern the black smoke of a huge veld fire in the distance. At about 18h00 we realised that it was approaching very fast, with nerve wrecking, ominous crackling sounds.
We tried to stave off the fire by wetting the vegetation next to the kennels. At all costs we had to prevent the fire from reaching the gigantic blue gum trees just behind our kennels. Some of our dedicated volunteers arrived, as well as the amazing members of Lyttelton CPSF 2 Patrollers. Later on, the Tshwane Fire Department's veld fire vehicle arrived, but couldn't get close enough to the fire to use their hoses, due to fences and structures blocking the way, but they helped the rest of the team to carry buckets of water, extending our existing hosepipes, and fought the fire by any means possible. The team stopped the fire reaching the blue gums, but for the next 6 hours, fought the fire over about an 800m front. The ADT Fidelity veld fire vehicle entered the farm from the west, via an overgrown unused dirt road and to fight the enormous fire from the other side. At one stage, the wind turned and the fire rapidly sped back to the kennels, but at about 03:30 on Saturday morning, the brave team finally won the battle!
To our utmost shock, on Saturday around 14h00, the fire flamed up again, near our kennels and the blue gum trees! Our still very tired volunteers rushed to the kennels again and Lyttelton CPSF 2 patrollers again took charge of the scene. Tshwane firefighters also arrived and later declared the area safe.
On Sunday afternoon, a volunteer extinguished still smouldering trees near our kennels
Our heartfelt thanks to our brave volunteers and the LT CPSF 2 Patrollers, as well as to the Tshwane and the ADT Fidelity fire fighters. We are humbled by your dedicated and committed support and we thank God for His mercy and protection. No dogs we
