🌿 Celebrating 20 Years of Dr Marius Louw
He’s not going to love this post — accolades and bragging have never been his thing.
But today, we celebrate this milestone anyway.
A life devoted to animals. A heart devoted to healing.
Today we honour a man who has dedicated two decades to one of the most demanding, emotional, and extraordinary professions on earth.
Dr Marius Louw — veterinarian, wildlife guardian, healer, counsellor, and the steady heartbeat behind thousands of animal stories.
For 20 years, he has cared for the very, very small — delicate kittens, pocket pets, fragile newborns —
and for some of the largest creatures in Africa, where every decision carries immense responsibility.
His versatility is unmatched. His diagnostic instinct borders on artistry.
And his heart… that’s the part you can’t teach.
This calling has required so much of him.
Long hours. Endless sacrifice. Heavy decisions.
He has carried worry home more nights than any of us will ever know.
He has grieved with families saying painful goodbyes,
and celebrated with those welcoming new life into their homes.
He has shared the rage and heartbreak of farmers facing the aftermath of poaching,
and he has held space for clients who walked into the consult room with far more on their hearts than on their pets’ charts.
And then there were the moments that demanded something different —
the patience, firmness, and courage to deal with difficult or unreasonable clients.
The ones who arrived emotional, stressed, demanding, or unwilling to listen.
The ones who needed a calm professional to steady the conversation,
or a stern but fair voice to advocate for what was truly best for the animal.
Balancing compassion with boundaries is not easy —
yet for 20 years, he has done it with professionalism and strength.
Because behind the scenes, he has often been far more than a veterinarian:
a grounding presence, a counsellor, a mediator, a listener,
and the person who carried the emotional weight of every outcome — good or bad.
This is the part people seldom see:
The emotional toll.
The pressure of life-or-death decisions.
The quiet moments of reflection.
The responsibility of speaking for patients who cannot speak for themselves.
And yet, through it all, he has kept choosing the animals.
Choosing to try again.
Choosing to care — fully, fiercely, relentlessly.
Today we don’t only celebrate a career.
We celebrate the person inside the profession.
A man of integrity, humility, deep compassion, diagnostic brilliance,
and an unwavering devotion to every creature that crossed his path.
Dr Louw, thank you for the thousands of lives you’ve touched.
Thank you for the healing, the hope, the humanity,
and the enormous heart you have poured into these past 20 years.
We are so proud of you,
and honoured to walk this journey with you.
Here’s to the next chapter —
and to the legacy you continue to build.
