MY Self-Isolation Quarantine Diary

Day 1 – I Can Do This!! Got my four dogs with me and Doggie Den will open again for daycare soon!
Day 2 – Taking my 16th video of the day and calling my dogs by every name of every Doggie Denner.
Day 3 – Dogs can sleep up to 18 hours a day and so can I. Who Knew??
Day 4 – 8:00pm. Didn't Remove my Day Pajamas, I still have my Night Pajamas on.
Day 5 – Today, I tried to make homemade bread. Don't have bread flour, no yeast, no other ingredients and I can't go to shops.
Day 6 – I get to take the Garbage out. I’m So scared, I asked Chris to do it and gave him a mask to wear.
Day 7 – Laughing way too much at my own jokes!!
Day 8 – Went to a new restaurant called β€œThe Kitchen”. For the first time in my life I prefer my son's cooking to my own (and he is VERY creative)
Day 9 – I put harness and lead on my dogs and take them for a walk around the pool and tell them to imagine it's Emmarentia Dam. .
Day 10 – Struck up a conversation with washing line. I'm so proud, he does such a great job when it doesn't rain.
Day 11 – Isolation is hard. I swear my 2 sons are going to kill me the next time I enter their rooms and ask what they're up to.
Day 12 – I realized why dogs get so excited about something moving outside, going for walks or car rides. If the doorbell rings, I swear I'm going to bark.
Day 13 – If you keep a pile of dirty dishes in each hand, you can’t accidently touch your face.
Day 14 – Checked with Scottie has the longest hair. Higgins leading Dusty and Stacey 3cm–2cm.
Day 15 – Anybody else feel like they're tired of receiving stupid whatsapp messages?”” πŸˆπŸ•πŸΎ

These are trying times for us all. It's wonderful to witness humanity rise to help one another. We at Carlisle Support Network {CSN} have come together as one voice, to offer support to as many people as we can. To that effect, we have created a forum where anyone can come and receive help for any trials and tribulations they are going through. The forum is run by counsellors, therapists and other helping practitioners who offer their time for free.
We have learned through our own experiences and healing that by sharing our stories with loving, non-judgemental and compassionate fellow survivors our burdens can be greatly relieved. Our therapists are all survivors of many types of trauma including all types of abuse, trafficking, addictions and other life experiences.
For example, we all feel disheartened due to this ongoing lockdown. Depression can set in and if we don't have ways to lighten our mood it can lead to more serious issues. If you can relate to this, please come and share your personal circumstances in the forum where we can provide support the best way we can. The difference here is that we also feel and have felt the same. We can help provide tools that can help you through whatever circumstances you find yourself in.
In the coming weeks, we will also be running support groups to help people through the current global crisis. More will be announced in the coming days.
You can find our forum here:

Following the President’s announcement of a 21-day lockdown, we have had to deal with a number of surrendered pets. This is NOT as a consequence of owners unnecessarily fearing that they may contract COVID-19 from their pets, or because they are no longer wanted. These owners are genuinely worried about how they are going to make ends meet and survive a potential substantial loss of income over this period and beyond, resulting in them realising that they very possibly will not be able to feed and care for them.

We have established relationships with many of these desperate pet owners and can vouch for the fact they truly care for their pets. Their predicament is beyond heart-breaking and the pressure being brought to bear on our staff unprecedented as we share their pain, loss and grief. Listening to their stories and witnessing them having to part with something so precious to them is indescribable.

The plight of the poor will be exacerbated and we salute all caring pet owners who pro-actively put the wellbeing and welfare of their beloved pets first. Voluntarily surrendering a beloved pet has got to rank top of the list of unselfish deeds and we salute everyone who has chosen to seek our professional help and guidance.

As a Society and as a Nation we will prevail and life will revert back to normal – or so we hope – but until then we need to find creative ways and means of reaching out in an effort to help the vulnerable and be a voice for the voiceless.

We would like to offer as many of them as possible a hand-up – not a hand-out – in the form of a bag of pet food to see them through this tough patch and to give them time to properly consider their options before parting with their pets.

The power to make a difference is in the hands of those more fortunate to help those less fortunate. Together we can make a positive impact and we hope that those of you who can will get behind us and support this special appeal by sending us a gift of pet food or funds to buy pet food to share amongst all deserving pet owners on the Cape Flats.

If you would like to make a donation to assist us, please visit our BackaBuddy page: https://www.backabuddy.co.za/donate/charity/awscape

Please also catch Alan Marriott’s show this evening at around 7pm tonight – he will be chatting about how you can assist during this difficult time:

PLEASE DON’T PANIC!
The World Health Organization (WHO) has stating that, as far as they can tell, there’s no real evidence that our companion animals, dogs and cats, can be infected by the new coronavirus, or COVID-19.
The coronavirus is spread primarily through contaminated droplets that result when humans cough, sneeze, or possibly even just breathe within close quarters of another person. While our pets are more than capable of producing such droplets, scientists have found that there are numerous barriers in place that generally prevent viruses like this one from jumping from one species to another (dogs to humans or Zoonosis).
South African’s are challenged at present for many reasons not only the COVID 19, one of the largest concerns for AACL-JHB, as an Animal Welfare Organisation, is community members that will listen to untruths regarding the spread of the virus and their pets, and shelters will end up with an increase in abandoned pets due to them being unfairly targeted.
PETS ARE GOOD TO HAVE AROUND.
Look at it this way, as more people start social distancing and working or studying from home, it is inevitable that you will have more contact with your dog or cat. WHO still advises washing your hands with soap and water or sanitizer after contact with your pets. This protects you against various common bacteria that can be carried on your pet’s coat. It is the pet owners, rather than the pets, that have a higher risk of spreading the virus.
Don’t take them for walk’s though rather play with them in your garden. The virus is not airborne so won’t spread to your neighbour’s garden. Look at a plan for your pet’s care should in case you go into self-isolation, have been exposed or tested positive for COVID-19. Order food and pet products online through Woolworths, Pick and Pay and pet shops.
In the end, your pets will be happy to have the extra time with you and they are great at helping lower peoples’ blood pressure and stress levels. We all know that stress lowers our immunity, so why not go home and pat your pet!
