Sick and tired of ESCOM. Last week they targetted my plot Tierpoort 221 to put up a HUGE tower right at the top, then make roads accross the ancient Ndebele graves that we carefully conserve, by using the camp only for grazing. Then this week, while I was not there they came through my main gate and left it and my internal gates wide open while they were there and when they left, so my workers had to round up the livestock and horses, instead of getting on with their work of cleaning stables.
There are two HUGE rows of pylons over my land. Under them is about 10 ha of grazing. We have fenced it off. There are two gates that Escom made to enter this section, but they DO NOT USE THEM... they use my main gate.
We hardly use any electricity on the farm. Anyway, most of the time it does not work. WHY is the land on our farm being stolen to move electricity anyway?? I am paying rates and taxes on that land. Can I start charging ESCOM rent of R20 000 per month for use of my land?? Could we think about how to go solar in our country instead of importing electricity from foreign countries???

I suspect my mare Magnum with Style, died of Leptospirosis. Her foal is also showing signs of Lepto. What I thought I had was Tick Bite Fever ( the hospital treated me for TBF with Doxycycline, which also works for Lepto. . Could it have been Lepto??? Anyone know where I can send a sample of her foals blood to check for Antibodies to Leptospirosis. Also my blood?
Today going to check foal again. Did a blood test yesterday. Monocytosis!!!!. VERY low blood calcium! The blood results are suspicious for Leprospirosis. Now need someone to tell me how to check for be antibodies as I treated the foal with Tetracycline. He was sick at same time as his mom and I injected him with Terramycin 100 when she went to hospital at end of June as I suspected B.equi. But he and mom were negative for B equi.
How do I test the foal and myself for Lepto antibodies? HELP!!!!

My Mare Magnum with Style ( Bred by Casey Deary and ridden in Non-Pro - see photo) is by the same stallion (Magnum Chics Dream) whose progeny are going so well in NRHA this week. She has a magnificent black c**t at foot. Sadly , on Safturday, she showed signs of colic and has been admitted to hospital, where she is in critical care. I love her so much and was with her yesterday in hospital - tubes and drips and a muzzle - her head hanging .... I cuddled her and tried not to cry. But last night I cried a lot and could not sleep. The bond with a good horse is like a bond with a family member. I am a veterinarian but feel so helpless. Today I have to work and cannot be by her side. Fortunately her c**t foal is with his buddies and does not miss his mom, cos he is old enough to be weaned.
