I've completed the How To Speak Dog course from Victoria Stilwell's Positively Academy.

This course gives you a direct window into your dog’s state of mind and corrects common myths about dog behaviour. I've learned how to zero in on canine body language signals, hone my observation skills, interpret what I see and then consider when and how to take action using the Positively Pyramid of dog body language. Learn how its “zones” of behaviour can improve safety, prevent conflict, and strengthen the bond that you have with a dog.

This course will help me:
☑Understand why “speaking dog” is just as important as teaching your dog skills.
☑Distinguish fact from fiction about dog body language and identify common myths you'll find all over the internet.
☑Discover how lip position or eye gaze can convey so much information and the surprising intention behind most dogs' messages that is easy to overlook.

There is so much tongue 👅 😋 out in these pics for ! Ellie was very annoyed that her mom and I had too long of a chat, so we did a brisk walk this morning to get all the annoyance out, stopping to sniff here and there where their noses wanted to. With lots of treats and praise 👏🏻 during the walk, they thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, for a bit of rest 😴.

🚨 Dogs Confined to Makeshift Box, Confiscated by SPCA

On 27 August 2024, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, accompanied by the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement: Animal Control Unit, rescued four dogs confined to a makeshift metal box at a property in Kensington. The rescue followed a report from a concerned citizen about illegal breeding and the cruel treatment of dogs at the property.

Despite numerous attempts to gain access to the property, SPCA Inspectors were initially unable to access the property. This led to a warrant being obtained from the Cape Town CBD Magistrates Court by Inspector Lee Prins in terms of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.

Accompanied by Inspector Lwazi Ntungele and officers from the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement: Animal Control Unit, Inspector Prins conducted a thorough search of the premises. The team discovered four dogs trapped in dire conditions within a metal box, severely limiting their mobility. Additionally, a female dog and her newborn puppies were found; regrettably, three of the puppies had already died. Two of the dogs also suffered from severely matted fur, causing significant discomfort and pain.

Inspector Lee proceeded to seize all the dogs and puppies on the property. The dogs and puppies are now under the care of the SPCA, where they have received medical attention from the in-house veterinary team.

The owner now faces charges of animal cruelty, with potential penalties including a fine of up to R40,000 or 12 months' imprisonment, with a criminal record, if found guilty.

Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse stated, "Animal cruelty will not be tolerated. We will ensure that justice is served, and that the owner faces the full might of the law."
