The reality of..."I just want my dog to have ONE litter...OR I don't feel he needs to loose his balls as he won't feel like a boy!
Please ๐ STOP backyard breeding ๐ ๐ซ ๐ข
๐๏ธIn April of this year, the SPCA projected that we would admit a total of 20,350 unwanted and unloved animals. The reality has been so much worse. A staggering 23,621 unwanted and unloved animals came into our care last year. As a non-selective, open admissions facility, we will never turn any animal away. Not from the public who can no longer care for their pet/s or from other welfare organisationsโincluding some self-proclaimed โno-killโ sheltersโseeking to offload animals they deem unadoptable. We have always been the only refuge for the unwanted.
Now, we're calling on the rest of the animal welfare sector to stand with us. Animal welfare is not about warehousing animals. The organisations that do sell a very false narrative about the state of animal welfare, including the luxury of being โfull,โ which denies the crisis at hand.
The numbers are a stark reminder of the crisis facing animal welfare. With adoption rates at critically low levels and backyard breeding still rampant, the cycle of suffering continues. Every unwanted animal suffers. The SPCA cannot tackle the crisis alone, which is why we're advocating for a shift in the sectorโs response to it. The answer lies in prevention.
Every sterilised pet takes us one step closer to a future where every animal has a home and every animal is wanted. To get there will need the collective action of every organisation in the sector. Read more about this here ๐https://pulse.ly/xmnfug0z0b
