🚨 5 DAYS. 2 RAIDS. 2 FIGHTING PITS. 12 DOGS. 3 ARRESTS🚨

In the relentless pursuit of justice, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, alongside the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement, has uncovered two dogfighting rings in just 5 days. First, in Ottery, five dogs were rescued from a horrific fighting pit. Today, in Eerste River, seven more dogs were found living in unimaginable conditionsβ€”chained and deprived of water, and another bloodstained makeshift fighting pit was found at the scene.

These raids have exposed the devastating reality of dogfighting in our communities. We need your help to ensure the criminals behind horrific cruelty are held accountable.

The reality of..."I just want my dog to have ONE litter...OR I don't feel he needs to loose his balls as he won't feel like a boy!
Please πŸ™ STOP backyard breeding πŸ™ 😫 😒

πŸ—žοΈIn April of this year, the SPCA projected that we would admit a total of 20,350 unwanted and unloved animals. The reality has been so much worse. A staggering 23,621 unwanted and unloved animals came into our care last year. As a non-selective, open admissions facility, we will never turn any animal away. Not from the public who can no longer care for their pet/s or from other welfare organisationsβ€”including some self-proclaimed β€œno-kill” sheltersβ€”seeking to offload animals they deem unadoptable. We have always been the only refuge for the unwanted.

Now, we're calling on the rest of the animal welfare sector to stand with us. Animal welfare is not about warehousing animals. The organisations that do sell a very false narrative about the state of animal welfare, including the luxury of being β€œfull,” which denies the crisis at hand.

The numbers are a stark reminder of the crisis facing animal welfare. With adoption rates at critically low levels and backyard breeding still rampant, the cycle of suffering continues. Every unwanted animal suffers. The SPCA cannot tackle the crisis alone, which is why we're advocating for a shift in the sector’s response to it. The answer lies in prevention.

Every sterilised pet takes us one step closer to a future where every animal has a home and every animal is wanted. To get there will need the collective action of every organisation in the sector. Read more about this here πŸ‘‡https://pulse.ly/xmnfug0z0b
