Rabies was first confirmed in South Africa in 1892, when a rabid terrier was imported from the United Kingdom. More than a century later, the country is still battling this fatal disease, with hotspots in rural communities across the Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal.

The good news? Rabies is 100% preventable through vaccination. 💉

NSPCA Inspectors regularly visit these high-risk areas through community outreach programmes - vaccinating pets and protecting both animals and people from this deadly virus.
