Three weeks ago, the Sandton SPCA received a call about a vervet monkey spotted around Bruma, Kensington, and the surrounding areas. Our team patiently tracked the monkey's movements, engaging with local residents to prevent panic or unauthorized attempts to capture the animal. After establishing the monkey's behavior patterns, we set a trap and successfully captured the monkey without causing injury to the animal or any members of the public.
The monkey, was immediately taken to the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital. Upon arrival, It was placed on a drip, a standard practice for animals that have been dispersing through unfamiliar territory as they often struggle to find water and become dehydrated. It received a thorough veterinary examination, was given a clean bill of health, and will soon be released into a safe area where he can continue his wild, free life.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital and Cora for lending us a trap. Your support and collaboration were crucial in ensuring the monkey's safe capture and rehabilitation.
We want to emphasize that if you encounter a wild animal, there is no need to harm it. The Sandton SPCA is here to help. Your safety and the well-being of the animals are our top priorities. Please contact us for assistance instead of taking matters into your own hands.

On the morning of April 24th, 2024, a distress call from Rivonia set off a rescue mission for two little kittens trapped in a daunting 20-meter-deep hole leading to the basement parking of a block of flats.
With only a small PVC pipe providing access to the main hole, Sandton SPCA inspectors faced a challenging task. Their only option was to dismantle the fan attached to the opening, allowing one brave inspector to squeeze through and reach the frightened kittens.
Found huddled together in a corner, the kittens clung to each other for safety, showing resilience against the dangers that surrounded them.
Approaching with care, the inspectors soothed the kittens' fears and gently lifted them to safety after a painstaking three-hour effort.
Now, these two precious kittens find themselves under the care of Sandton SPCA. They are receiving the love, attention, and nurturing they need to recover from their ordeal.
These brave little kittens (Mrs Flufferson and Cotton-Cloud) are soon going to be seeking forever homes filled with love, care, and patience. Are you ready to open your heart and home to these resilient little souls?
If you're ready to provide a loving and nurturing environment for these kittens to thrive, please reach out to our office at 011 444 7730. Ask to speak to our Kennel Manager, who will guide you through the adoption process.

Celebrating our New Cattery
We are delighted and proud to announce that we have successfully concluded the Cattery Project โ a project which was on our wish list for some time. The old cattery was restrictive for the cats, being unable to move between their day and night quarters, limited space for free choices of how and where to spend their time, whilst in our care. The new cattery subscribes fully to one of the Five Freedoms which govern the SPCA - stipulating that all animals have the Freedom to express normal behaviour by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company. The cats now have much more space to play, relax and enjoy some sun.
This challenging project made us also realise the importance of team work โ project managed by Marie Benvenutti (Volunteer), Chris Lamb (Committee Member), Arnold Pablo and his team (Contractor from APR Projects), Stephen Maila (General Manager) and Kea Konzane (Kennel Manager). This project would not at all have been possible without our donorsโ generous donations of materials required and their financial support. They are Graeme Mappin from Duro Technologies, Michael Bolleurs and Rolfe Theron from Barnes Fencing, Willem and Benita Kriel from Top Paints, Mark Richardson from CND Nurseries, Maddie Degger from Oxford Road Veterinary Practice, Inspector Xolane Mncube and some friends of the SPCA - Anthony Harris, Carla van der Walt, Judy de Kock, Frans Visscher, Pieter van Welzen, Rene Kilner, Gusti Coetzer, Nigel Pengelly, Dimitri Kelaiditis and the Animal Enrichment Volunteers Team.
On 14 March 2024 we proudly celebrated the official opening of the new cattery with a ribbon cutting ceremony. We also honoured Mrs Gloria Ndlovu who has served our kittens and cats for 30 years! We thank Norman Goodfellows, Sue from The Vegan Chef, Fatima from The Pantry Kitchen, Inspector Xolane Mncube and Mario Adams, Pieter van Welzen and Florence Thom for donating refreshments for this special occasion.

Our community outreaches aim to provide essential medical care to animals in townships where pet owners can't always afford these services. The last outreach into Tsutsumani, Alexandra was a great success!
- 110 pet owners attended
- 24 pets admitted on the day for sterilisation
- 60 rabies vaccines administered
Handouts of pet food and accessories were given to those who booked their dog or cat in for sterilisation, or to owners whose pets were already spayed or neutered. Pets admitted for sterilisation were transported to Sandton SPCA, spent two nights at the clinic and were returned to their owners two days later. Our team of inspectors and animal health technicians provided educational material and advice to community members who had questions and were keen to learn more about how to better the lives of their pets.
We are currently doing one outreach a month - our 2024 objective is one every two weeks. Each outreach costs around R10 000, and the impact these have over time creates the seed of real change! Educational programmes and upliftment of communities makes all the difference in improving the lives of ๐๐พ๐

Fluffy (1 year-old) is such a pretty, lively โgolden collieโ looking for a loving home!๐ฅน
Sheโs been with us for a few months, came in as a โjust a babyโ of only 10 months old. Her previous owner moved into an apartment and could no longer keep her. She needs to run free in a good space, have a human family who will love, play with her and take her for magical long walks.๐ฅฐ
Kennel life is stressing her, but once sheโs been out in the paddocks for a few hours and allowed to run and swim, she calms down and is a real beauty! Fluffy will need an experienced dog owner to help her transition back into a happy life again.
Come and MEET FLUFFY, her special person is out there somewhereโฆ weโre open on Saturday from 9am to 12, weekdays from 9am to to 3.30pm.
If youโre interested, please call our kennel manager on 011 444 7730.
