Do you KNOW their NOSE?

YOUR DOG'S NOSE

FACT: dogs noses are at least 100,000 times more sensitive than ours

First and foremost, let it be said that you should NEVER hit your dog, ever!

You shouldn't hit your dog on the nose because it can cause fear, stress, confusion, and aggression, and it can damage the trust between you and your dog:

Fear
Dogs have a biological function that protects them from harm, and touching their nose can make them recoil in fear.

Confusion
Smacking your dog on the nose may not convey the intended message of correcting behavior.

Aggression
Hitting your dog can increase aggression, and some studies have shown that dogs respond aggressively when they are hit.

Broken trust
Dogs view their owners as their leaders and source of security, and smacking disrupts this view. Once trust is broken, it can be difficult to rebuild.

The bottom line? That nose is a miracle. It should never be smacked or taken for granted.

PUPPY CLASSES ARE ESSENTIAL!

We have rounded up 5 great reasons why pet socialisation is so important and beneficial, and they are as follows.

1. Social dogs get more exercise and have more fun!– When your dog is able to handle social settings with ease and poise, he or she gets to enjoy life more. It’s just that simple. If your dog is anxious, afraid, or exhibits unpredictable behaviors when in new places or around new people, it is much harder for them to join you in all aspects of your life.

2. Social dogs are easier to groom.– Bathing pets and trimming nails is hard enough as is, but the more socialized pets are, the more comfortable they tend to be in grooming situations.

3. Socialised dogs handle vet exams more easily.– Vet exams generally require hands-on treatment in spaces that are less than familiar to our pets. Poorly socialized and anxious dogs are harder to treat than well-adjusted ones.

4. Social dogs have less fear and anxiety.– Just like humans do, dogs often fear what is unfamiliar for them. If your dog tends to cower or hide, there’s something wrong. This is why it’s good to introduce them to other pets and humans, as well as as many sights, sounds, and smells as possible.

5. Socialised dogs are less prone to aggressive behavior.– Puppies that are regularly exposed to new people, animals, and environments are far less likely to develop aggressive behaviors. Conversely, dog aggression generally stems from fear and unfamiliarity.

Luckily at ATT we are able to help! Our Puppy Socialisation and Parent Information classes run on a Saturday at 08:30 at No. 2 Sangster Road, Magaliessig. There are 4 classes in total to ensure that your puppy is well-adjusted and ready to live his or her best life. Your first class must be attended without your puppy, ideally before you get your puppy.
