Hi PAWrents! PLEASE BE ADVISED OF THE HEATWAVE this week. Please take note of the heatstroke signs, keep them handy. If you are worried about your pet, rather take them to the vet.. Wet your pet with a little water during the day, keep them as cool as possible. Remember, if it you can't hold your hand on the tar for more than 3 seconds, it is TOO HOT FOR YOUR PET TO WALK ON IT. With temperatures soaring this summer a reminder of THE CRITICAL DANGERS OF heatstroke in dogs.Heatstroke is not only deadly but can also be very costly if your dog ends up in emergency vet care. Snubnose and longhaired dogs are especially susceptible to heatstroke. Learn about the dangers. Look at our previous for signs of heatstroke. Get informed.

Signs of heatstroke in dogs include:
Heavy panting
Rapid breathing
Drooling more than usual
Dry mucous membranes
Bright red gums and tongue
Hot skin
An elevated heart rate
Restlessness or agitation
Vomiting or diarrhea
Lethargy
Other signs include:
Confusion, Weakness or collapse, Seizures, Muscle tremors, Ataxia (staggering), Coma, and Death.
If you suspect your dog is overheating, you should:
Take your dog somewhere cool, ideally a well-ventilated area
Offer them small sips of water
Call your vet
If your dog loses consciousness or seems severely ill (vomiting, seizing, etc.), get to a veterinary hospital immediately

Hi Paw-rents. It is getting hotter by the day. Please do not leave your pets in the car, even for just a few minutes.

As the temperature rises, so do the number of calls about dogs being left in vehicles.

Most people understand that leaving a pet in a vehicle on a hot day can lead to death or serious health problems for dogs in a very short period of time. However, even on mild summer days it does not take long for the temperature in a car to reach dangerous levels.

Remember to save this post so you know what to do if your pets are showing signs of heatstroke.

Do you KNOW their NOSE?

YOUR DOG'S NOSE

FACT: dogs noses are at least 100,000 times more sensitive than ours

First and foremost, let it be said that you should NEVER hit your dog, ever!

You shouldn't hit your dog on the nose because it can cause fear, stress, confusion, and aggression, and it can damage the trust between you and your dog:

Fear
Dogs have a biological function that protects them from harm, and touching their nose can make them recoil in fear.

Confusion
Smacking your dog on the nose may not convey the intended message of correcting behavior.

Aggression
Hitting your dog can increase aggression, and some studies have shown that dogs respond aggressively when they are hit.

Broken trust
Dogs view their owners as their leaders and source of security, and smacking disrupts this view. Once trust is broken, it can be difficult to rebuild.

The bottom line? That nose is a miracle. It should never be smacked or taken for granted.
