For a year we build…
together as a team - horse, rider, trainer, groom, family and barn.
Equestrian breathing families,
including nine woman amateur riders,
people of character,
Family and friends who are sincerely and purely proud to do what they love.
Here at De Bosch we like to celebrate. We celebrate the big things BIG time! We also love to celebrate the small things, a first time something happens, achieving small wins in improvement, unexpected favour, a happy and meaningful moment. We celebrate joy, passion and pride. We celebrate success and we celebrate each other. The past week… all of the above happened.
To single out a few highlights is impossible! However, never did we think 19 year old Tower would win a performance National Blue Ribbon - Well done little Kira!! And Adriaan being trainer and coach of the SA Grand Champion Amateur Three-gaited, Five-gaited and Park Horse for the second consecutive year, is an exceptional achievement. 13 SA Champions and 36 top 3 placings - a job very well done!
Although there were lots of success, it doesn’t mean it came easy. There were also crisis management, difficult circumstances, injured and ill horses and riders.
There’s a saying… “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard” - but hard work still needs to SHOW UP.
Each of our riders showed up this week to make the most of their performances. They persevered and excelled and we are so proud of you. Thank you for representing De Bosch and living the dream to the fullest ❤️
It’s a massive relief that the Western Cape horses do not have to quarantine - for the first time in years! The De Bosch horses are on their way home, ready for well-deserved rest and TLC. Thank you Adriaan for your expert care and guidance. We appreciate all you do for our horses and riders to perform to the best of their abilities.

We are so lucky to have you part of our lives and appreciate all you do for us and the hard work you continuously put in - especially this time of the year! We truly enjoy all the precious memories shared and know there will be many more to come. 💫

We are so privileged to have LIESBETH, a known and respectable horsewoman through the years, part of our team. Always supporting everyone to the fullest and there to celebrate the big and small wins! We learn so much from you Tannie Liesbeth and look forward to see you and your gorgeous mare trotting down the Bloem rail!
What am I looking forward to most for Nationals in Bloem 2024:
I am looking forward to Bloem Show 2024 to add to a lifetime of precious memories the Show has brought me for more than 50 years. Looking forward to the road trip from Cape Town over the Orange River under the Free State’s most beautiful sky with its cumulus clouds I have only ever seen there. Arriving at the Horse gate at the back and becoming part of the hive of activity from driving past the horse trailers around the corner over the little bridge, seeing horses being washed and worked and all the familiar faces from a year ago. The warm welcome at De Bosch Stables, dressed beautifully by Adriaan and his team. Walking through the stables with all the familiar horses and photos to my beautiful mare Something French, waiting for her first carrot of the week.
What follows for the rest of the week is just pure happiness and excitement, winning or losing – just to come home to my Happy Place being Bloem 2024.
What I love most about our trainer:
Being the oldest and most unfit rider at De Bosch, I appreciate Adriaan’s endless patience with me often causing him a sleepless night or two! The best was the Ladies Fine Harness at Robertson Show and while retiring, French, not wanting to stand still for a moment managed to get her “disselboom” right over her tail and while Adriaan had to hold her and could not manage to get it back over without putting me in danger, Rian sprinted in to lift the car back over but so high, sending me flying with my evening dress and all. Adriaan managed to calm French, got me back on safely with no harm done. Next, I wanted to ride her and what a joy it was that first day in the saddle again Adriaan! Oh dear and then I wanted to show her in the Park division at Parys - strictly against doctor’s orders and Adriaan’s sanity as I may not fall after a fractured back some years ago, but Adriaan, Onela and Bashin managed to get me on to a good Reserve Park Grand Champion. Thank You Adriaan!
Something I am really proud of is winning the Amateur Ladies Fine Harness Championship at Bloem with French in 2022 for the fourth time after my first Ladies Fine Harness Championship with Special Command in 2005, then with Uncle Sam in 2011 and X-Factor in 2019. My proudest moment though was my first ever Blue Ribbon on Black Jewel thanks to the legendary Bob Rowan for riders under 18 in 1972 and then winning the Three Gaited novice Championship as well as the Ladies Three Gaited Championship on my beloved Flame Street Again in 2002.
I hope I can show at Bloem for some years to come still. Just the thought of it brings a smile to my face!

Bloem 2024 - What I am hopeful for:
Every time we enter the show ring we each hope to experience something we have never felt before. That is what I’m hoping for. 💫🤞
Favourite class of the show:
I could watch Ladies Three-gaited horses all night long.
My biggest area of growth since I begun riding:
Confidence. (still working on it though)
What I love most about our trainer:
Adriaan is family and part of our lives - I can’t see it any different. I love his straightforwardness and honesty. His work ethic and attention to detail are inspiring. I love the mutual respect we have. I really admire and appreciate how he can optimise the potential of all his diverse types of riders, same as the horses. 🪶
A game-changer moment in the past year:
Watching Adriaan show 4 x 4 at Robertson Spring Show 2023 - it clicked.
Most memorable moment with this horse:
Riding Wicked in the outdoor arena of our new barn. He’s a changed horse 😂💨
Something I am really proud of:
Always having BMT.

What a “Bloem-win” would look like to me:
A “Bloem-win” would be concluding a year of hard work together as barn family around the fire with a glass of red wine on Stake night, satisfied and content with enjoyable performances with my boys. 🥰🌹🍷(A prosperous outcome wouldn’t hurt! 😉)

Nicole and beloved Maningi - WE ARE EXCITED. ⚡️
Nicole and Wild Night - They’re gonna catch your eye!
What I am looking forward to most for Nationals in Bloem 2024:
Trotting up the shute towards the arena.
Favourite thing about showing my horse:
Maningi is ALWAYS game - he always gives 150% when he hits the arena. I love feeling his energy underneath me.
Wild Night - I love looking through his two little ears. I always get goosebumps when he strikes his rythmic park-trot.
Most memorable moment with this horse:
Maningi: Winning the Five-gaited Stallion class at Bloem in 2021.
Night: Winning the Grand Champion Three-gaited at Riversdale 2024. After a long period, it was unbelievably special to return to the ring with my heart horse.
What makes it even more special is that both Maningi and Night was bred by my dad. It’s always special sharing victories like these with my dad.
What I love most about our trainer:
Adriaan is one of the most hardworking and dedicated people I know. I admire his absolute passion for horses and the fact that he always has a plan B, C, D and E to make it work.
My horse in one word:

Most significant accomplishment with this horse:
Winning our qualifiers 2 years in a row at Nationals.
My horse in one word:
Annie is a very flashy blond with beautiful mane and tail. 😍
Most memorable moment with this horse:
Every class is memorable with Annie. She loves doing her job. And we always get a lot of support from the crowd.
What a “Bloem-win” would look like to me:
A Bloem win for us will be for me to keep calm and to quide my horse through the ring the best way I am capable of.
Favourite thing about showing my horse:
Favourite thing about showing Annie is that she always makes herself look so pretty in the show ring.

My biggest area of growth since I begun riding:
I would like to think my biggest area of growth since I begun riding is definitely gaining confidence and trusting my horse. I think that these qualities are very important when it comes to a rider's success and it definitely made me a stronger rider. Before every equitation class my trainer would always tell me to show my teeth. This has taught me to always have a smile on my face and to look as if I'm enjoying my horse when riding in a class. Confidence has brought me so many achievements in riding and I am proud of myself for gaining it.
A class I will never forget:
This would 100% be my first ever Bloem blue ribbon that I won last year (2023) when riding in the SA Champion Three Gaited riders 18 years and younger Equitation class. It was an achievement I really wanted, but didn't expect to receive and I will forever be grateful for what I experienced that night. It was also my last class with me and my sister's three gaited equitation horse, Exclusive O'Lee (aka Ollie), and it was very special to end our journey with him like that.
Bloem 2024 - What I am hopeful for:
This year I will be riding my mare, Dancing in the Clouds. This will be our first Bloem Show together and I am excited to show what a great match we are. My hope for Bloem 2024 is firstly that me and my horse will bring out the best in each other and that we will give our best to work together as a team so that, whatever results we get, I'll know we did our best. This year is also my last Bloem where I'll get to ride equitation, which brings me to the second thing I am hopeful for. I hope that I'll give my absolute best in all of my classes and that I'll be proud of myself afterwards no matter what. I hope to enjoy every single moment of Bloem 2024 in the ring, but also alongside the ring while spending time with the De Bosch family.

We are very excited to have Mieke and Mr Big part of our team for the first time at Bloemfontein Show. Three eager “horse-loving-girls” we (especially the foals) love having at the barn! Bloem show will be extra special for the Le Roux family this year…
What I am looking forward to most for Nationals in Bloem 2024:
Being able to take part as a family. This year will be Kira’s first Bloem. Sharing the excitement and passion with both my girls are extremely special.
My biggest area of growth since I begun riding:
Letting God take the reins.
I can only be thankful for opportunities, friendships, seasons and everyone that has played a part in my riding journey.
Most significant accomplishment with this horse:
Winning two divisions the same year. It was truly special and an all time high!
My horse in one word: BIG
What is my horse’s signature trait:
He has a number 1 stipe/blaze on his head 😉💥

The past season has been significant in Zara’s riding journey. Zara is stepping up in divisions this year and she also now have her first Saddlebred “Star” - Come and See Me.
What I am looking forward to most for Nationals in Bloem 2024:
Showing with a double bridle for the first time.
My biggest area of growth since I begun riding:
Gaining confidence.
What I love most about our trainer:
Oom Adriaan helps me so much. I like it when he point out what I must focus on and when I get a compliment. He is also very funny.
Favourite class of the show:
Champion of Champions Equitation and the Five-gaited Championship.
Something I’am really proud of:
My new horse “Star”. ⭐️
Bloem 2024 - What I am hopeful for:
To do my best and to enjoy every moment.

I am very excited to participate in my first Bloem show! I can’t wait! 😁
What I love most about our trainer:
Oom Adriaan is very funny and makes me laugh. I like his lessons a lot. I like it when he lets me ride on my own in the big arena.
Favourite class of the show: I love watching the little foals.
What a “Bloem-win” would look like to me: I would be so happy, Tower will get lots of carrots and kisses. 🥕🥕

Although focusing on Veterinary Studies, ANJE is keen and game as always for the best week of the year! And… there’s been some development… she’s also showing her baby Alfie this year at Bloem in the Park division!
What I am looking forward to most for Nationals in Bloem 2024:
With my studies taking top of the priority list, I don’t get to do a lot of shows these days. That means the one or two I do, is extra special. I’m so excited to show my two horses and to spend time with our barn family next to the show ring. 🐴🍷🔥🥩👨👩👦👦
If there’s one thing in the show ring I get to do forever:
It’s no secret that equitation is my first and biggest love 🙂 If I can do serpentines, pivots, lead changes and circles all day long - yes please!
My biggest area of growth since I begun riding:
I think something I have been working on since the u10 division, was my horsemanship skills and using my head when riding. That equipped me to be a rider who can and wants to climb on any horse and make the most of the ride.
Most significant accomplishment with this horse:
Admiral: 2x National Amateur Three-gaited Grand Champion
Rocky: …making it through our first class 😂
What I love most about our trainer:
Adriaan is the most incredible trainer and there are 1000 things I love about him. But mostly, he is so patient with each of his (very different) riders, and with me, he is game for every and any challenge I propose to him. He is not only our trainer, but he supports us with everything we do in life and we all know he is only one call away.
Favourite class of the show:
Under 8 walk trot 🥹. I love to watch the love and passion little kids have for their horses and this sport.
Something I’m really proud of:
I am really proud of the community we have in our barn. The camaraderie is not something you find everywhere, and everyone is truly there to have fun, support each other, and enjoy their horses.
A class I will never forget:
Winning the u16 Three-gaited Equitation with my heart horse, Final Star, will forever be my favourite class. Combining my favourite horse, a challenging ride, AND equitation (and riding out with a ‘Bloem blue one’) - I cannot think of anything better.
Bloem 2024 - What I am hopeful for:
My goal is to show both my horses to the best of my and their abilities. I know the potential they have, and if I can match that, no matter where we place, we were successful and I am happy.
I also really, really, really hope my little champion Alfie has a great show, and continue to grow and improve with every step he takes.

Our small but fierce team of 8 horses are home safely after the long drive from Parys Christmas Festival. What an incredible end to a memorable year for De Bosch.
