Our story
Vredenheim’s owners, originally long-time game farmers from Dundee in Kwazulu Natal, have a great passion for big cats and decided to open a Big Cats Park at Vredenheim to educate the public about these majestic animals and their behaviours. They opened our Big Cats Park in October 2011, and it has been attracting visitors from far and wide ever since.
The park, which was fully approved by Cape Nature, is currently home to 3 brown lions, 2 white lions, 1 leopard and 2 Bengal tigers. These animals were purchased from approved breeding programs, and Vredenheim is not allowed to breed them further – we do not wish to be a breeding programs, but rather a place of sanctuary for these beautiful creatures, where the public can enjoy them and learn more about them. Our enclosures are large and spacious, and offer each cat their own “creature comforts”, such as a play area and swimming pool for our tigers, long grass for our leopard and a big, comfortable rock for our male white lion to sun himself on during the day.
