SARC is a registered NPO (119-618) in Steytlerville, a small town in the Karoo, Eastern Cape and are voluntarily run. We are not funded by the government or municipality and are currently serving a community of approximately 4,000 people's animals with medical care, sterilizations and food, if we have available. We believe education and empowerment of our community is vital to the success of havi

ng healthy and happy animals and responsible, caring owners. To raise funds, we have fundraising initiatives and depend on the kindness of the public for donations. We also have a basic animal clinic that provides primary animal health care to our town's needy animals. bric-a-brac, books, home-ware and clothes are sold at the Snuffel Kardoes to assist with raising much needed funds for our worthy cause. Donations for this initiative are gladly welcomed. Promoting Animal Welfare; Cultivating Humanity, Respect and Self-worth for all living beings through Education, Care and a Dog Training Initiative.

Changing lives, One Animal at a Time

We are a voluntarily run small town charity situated in Steytlerville, Karoo. We endeavor to, through our compassion and many a times under very difficult circumstances; improve the lives of our community’s animals by providing Basic Animal Care, i.e. dipping, deworming, sterilizations, vaccination, etc. and by giving Animal Welfare Education. When we have the means to, we also run a feeding scheme for the needy animals.

We strive to apply the same goals as set out by the NSPCA and BELIEVE that an animals welfare should be measured in terms of the FIVE FREEDOMS as specified by them:

freedom from hunger and thirst,

freedom from discomfort,

freedom from pain, injury and disease,

freedom to express normal behavior,

freedom from fear and distress.

Being remote and in a small town whose community is mostly unemployed and impoverished, we sadly do not have the advantage one finds in big cities like ample volunteers or a vast pool of donors or sponsors, veterinarians or clinics. However, we are blessed to have the telephonic assistance of three veterinarians and in case of emergencies we travel between 155 - 195 km’s to get to the nearest available vet. The abused, abandoned and neglected animals of our community are being sheltered at the premises of different animal loving volunteers. Out of desperation, and as it is very difficult to find new homes for adult cats and we could also no longer accept all the euthanasia's of healthy cats; our cat sanctuary was born for the abused and unwanted cats. Many of these beautiful cats are adoptable and waiting for a new loving home, please contact us should you be interested in adopting.

Albeit, we lack the big-city privileges and all of it’s commodities, we don’t allow this to be an excuse to help an animal in need! However, this being said we are in dire need for financial aid to be able to continue our community services, so please consider donating to us.
