Meet the EberVet Pet Clinic Dream Team! From our head vet, Dr Esmaré, who keeps us all in check, to the delightful characters who make every day a wild adventure!
Watch closely… you might just catch a rare sighting of our camera-shy René (she tries to dodge the lens faster than a Border Collie at bath time!). Thanks to Dr Bennie’s ‘gentle restraint,’ we managed to keep her on-screen just long enough for Aldorette to introduce her! 😆
—our team’s here to make sure your pets get only the best care (and plenty of belly rubs too).

Fireworks may light up our skies on 5 November, but for our pets, it can be a night of confusion and fear. They rely on us to bring them home if they get lost – and microchipping is the best way to make that happen.
This Guy Fawkes, take these steps to protect your furry friends:
🐾 Locate your pet’s microchip number
🐾 Check and update your details with the provider (or visit your vet if you’re unsure!)
🐾 Prepare a safe, calm space for the evening
We owe it to them to keep them safe and close. A microchip can be the difference between a lost pet and a happy reunion. Let’s make this a night of peace and protection for them. Every step we take is one closer to keeping them safe.

What is Trancing in Dogs?
Have you ever noticed your dog moving slowly under a low-hanging branch or letting a silky curtain glide over their back? This strange, almost trance-like behaviour is known as "trancing," and while it can look concerning, it's generally harmless.
Veterinarians and pet owners are still unsure of the exact cause behind trancing. Some believe it could resemble obsessive-compulsive behaviour or even a mild form of seizure. However, there's no solid evidence linking it to any medical condition. Instead, many experts think it might simply feel good to the dog!
So, if you see your furry friend in a trance-like state, don’t worry! This behaviour is usually considered benign and might even be enjoyable for your dog. It’s best to let them enjoy it without interference unless you notice other unusual behaviours.

Perianal Fistulas in Dogs
Perianal fistulas, also known as anal furunculosis, are a severe medical condition primarily affecting German Shepherd dogs, though they can occur in other breeds as well. The term "perianal" refers to the area surrounding the anus, while a fistula is an abnormal tunnel that forms between two tissues, organs, or vessels that are not typically connected.
In dogs with perianal fistulas, infections usually develop in the perianal region, accompanied by one or more draining tracts. The early stages of the condition may show few clinical signs, making it challenging to detect. As the disease progresses, affected dogs may strain during defecation, exhibit blood in their feces, and show a decreased appetite. These dogs often lick excessively at their tail and rectal regions, may be reluctant to sit, and could exhibit behavioural changes such as withdrawal or aggression when the tail or hindquarters are touched.
The exact cause of perianal fistulas remains unclear, but several factors are believed to contribute to the condition. These include impaction or infection of the anal sacs, poor air circulation around the anal region, and autoimmune disease. Additionally, there is a genetic component, as the condition tends to occur in certain families of German Shepherds.
Treatment typically involves a combination of medical management and, in some cases, surgical intervention. Cyclosporine is often the treatment of choice, and initiating therapy early can lead to better outcomes. If you suspect your dog might have perianal fistulas, it is crucial to consult a veterinarian promptly.
By recognising the signs and seeking early veterinary care, owners can help manage this painful condition and improve their dogs' quality of life.
