But Why Do Spays & Neuters Cost What They Cost?!🤔
It’s a question we hear often: “Why does it cost so much to spay or neuter my pet?”
Let’s take a closer look at what really goes into these procedures:
- It’s a Full Surgical Procedure
Spays (for females) and neuters (for males) are not simple “snip” appointments, these are major surgeries performed under sterile conditions, requiring skill, time, and careful preparation.
For spays: we enter the abdomen to carefully remove the ovaries and uterus (not just tie off the tubes).
For neuters: we surgically remove the testicles and close the surgical site with precision.
- General Anaesthesia:
Your pet is placed under full general anaesthesia, which includes:
• A thorough pre-op health check
• Pre-anaesthetic bloodwork (if needed)
• IV fluids to maintain blood pressure and support circulation
• Continuous monitoring of heart rate, breathing, oxygen levels, and blood pressure Throughout the procedure
- Skilled Veterinary Team
You’re paying for the expertise of a fully qualified veterinary surgeon, assisted by trained veterinary nurses and anaesthetists, all working together to ensure your pet’s safety before, during, and after surgery.
- Sterile Surgical Suite & Equipment
The procedure takes place in a sterile surgical theatre with advanced monitoring equipment, sterile instruments, and medical supplies such as gowns, gloves, drapes, and sutures, all of which are single-use or undergo strict sterilisation processes.
- Pain Management & Aftercare
Pain relief is provided before, during, and after the procedure to keep your pet as comfortable as possible. We also give detailed home care instructions and are always available if you have any post-op questions or concerns.
- Time & Attention
From the moment your pet is admitted until they are discharged, our team is caring for them - preparing, monitoring, performing the procedure, and overseeing recovery. It’s far more than a “quick in-and-out” service.
- The Bigger Picture
Spaying and neutering prevents unwanted litters, reduces the risk of certain cancers and diseases, and can improve behaviour and long-term health. It’s truly an investment in your pet’s future wellbeing.
At Valley Farm, we believe in doing these surgeries properly, as though every pet is our own. Safety, comfort, and quality care are our top priorities. 🐾
