Goshen Farm

Goshen Farm We breed Boer Goats ,Kalahari Goats, Brahman and Damara ,Pedi ,Dorper Sheep for commercial purposes

"If it aint Right then its not for Use"

Our Brahman breeding began in 1995 when Jonas Semosa senior purchased 10 calves from Theo Dicke in Duiwelskloof containing one bull. The breeding advanced until 1997 when he purchased 7 more calves that where females from Piet Warren in Gravellote by that time we where not know-legible about maintaining this kind of cattle breed even though Jonas has always had the heart of a cattle’s man as he ha

s taken care of his grandfather’s cattle and other family members cattle from a very young age and that is the very thing that inspired him to want to work with cattle

AJS Red Brahman is established in the lower regions of Tzaneen . Our whole herd is built only on genetics from Theo Dicke and Piet Warren. We farm our cattle in the humid area of South-Africa at temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius. All our cattle are reared on veld conditions only attaining extra feed during winter and so are they bred on an area that is regarded as an intense heart water area

We began breeding Goats in 1999 starting with 6 STUD Boer goats by the time getting boer goats in our area was very difficult so we drove up to Musina and bought them from one farmer who was selling everything because he wasleaving
and due to no knowledge we lost 4 females and a ram but we had there Kids so we brought them up we the out most care in 2010 we bought kalahari red rams from Tobie Fourie(Limpopo dairy) one of the Rams was the grandson of the Pretoria grand Sire and the reserve grand champion of kimberly we are now running over 40 kalahari red and 100 boer goats

Breeding Pedi sheep started in 1998 with genetics from Oom Theo Dicke and recently purchased a ram from Scott Atherstone and we have big hopes for that guy and we are running on just over 100 sheep

The buck (phoko) is the most important member of the herd (trip), yet often the most neglected. Not only does he contribute half of the genetics to the flock, but his success as a breeder will go a long way towards ensuring a profitable kid crop. Look after him well!

?

Goats are ruminants? - The rumen occupies a large percentage of the abdominal cavity of the ruminant. It is a large storage space for food that is quickly consumed, then later regurgitated, re-chewed, and re-swallowed in a process called cud chewing. Rumination or cud chewing occurs primarily when the animal is resting and not eating. Healthy mature goats will chew their cuds for several hours each day!

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

An Affirmative Action appointed representative from the Department of Agriculture stopped at a farm in the platteland and talked with an old Afrikaans farmer.

“I am Thabo Ndhlovu from the Department of Agriculture and I need to inspect your farm.”

“Ja meneer, of course, maar asseblief . . . just stay out of that field over there.”

“Mister, I have the authority of the Government with me. See this card? This card means I am allowed to go WHEREVER I WISH on any agricultural land. No questions asked or answered. This is the new South Africa. Have I made myself clear? Do-you-un-der-stand?”

“Ja! Toe maar.” nodded the old farmer politely as he went about his farm chores.

Inevitably, a little later, the old farmer heard the loud screams he’d anticipated and saw the Agriculture Representative running for the fence in the field close by, and equally inevitable, not too far behind was the farmer's huge prize Afrikaner bull, gaining on the terrified Agriculture Representative with every step.

Of course the old farmer immediately threw down his tools, ran to the fence and shouted encouragement to the Agricultural Representative . . . “Your card! Your card, meneer! Show him your card!

Some days we need a bit of laughter
