Our recently acquired Schmidt-Focke red discus have produced a magnificent spawn of youngsters, always so nice to see this. These fishes are parasite free and should be available in a few weeks time!

These are Curilencer x Red Turquoise crosses. The red turquoise parent came from Alexander Piwowarski and the Curilencer parent came from Gerhard Rahn, both leading breeders in Germany. Alexander Piwowarski has offered these crosses via his website but now they are available locally. Please inquire, I have a number of fishes available in the 10-12 cm size and also larger ones of 14 cm plus. As always, parasite free and far less problematic.

After the pigeon bloods were quarantined for a month they have now been moved into a larger tank with a group of Curilencer x Red Turquoise Discus so that they have space to grow out more. Current size is around 15 cm.

We recently purchased five Schmidt-Focke wild-type reds from Istvan Kovacs in Hungary with Marco du Toit's assistance and they arrived just over a month ago. These are from the line that Dr Schmidt-Focke started breeding around 1985, then Manfred Goebel looked after the line until about 2000, after which Istvan bought some from him again. Istvan has crossed in very red Curipera Alencers to not inbreed too much and these are just about the reddest wild type discus available. They are parasite free of course, nothing in our setup is not parasite free. They have settled in extremely well, two pairs have formed and the extra female has now paired off with a beautiful Curilencer. These will be a good addition to our red Curilencers, which as also a red wild-type discus. Now the challenge will be to breed them! Here the female is looking for a mate amongst our young group of Curilencers.

The picture that I have just posted is of a Curilencer discus, which is a wild type discus, no frills, just sheer wild beauty. I have a number of youngsters of these available at the moment. Due to the fact that they are parasite free they are much easier to keep, no flagellate medication required.

Kind regards, Dirk
