Delilah is finally learning to be a puppy. She has found the joy of playing with toys. Her confidence in people is growing daily and we have high hopes for her rehabilitation and finding a forever home. Thank you to everybody that has supported Delilah so far. We could not do it without the help of our suppawters.
Last week when Delilah returned from the vet and all her wounds had been cleaned and treated. The white stuff on her face is the ointment which is helping her heal.
The emotional scarring will take time to heal. She shows no agression but is very cautious to extend a paw of friendship.
Our staff have been spending time with her and once she sees that we mean her no harm she is quite playful. She grabs her blanket out of her bed and tosses it around as if to say: "Wanna play?"
This gives us hope.
Come meet Delilah in S-Run at the SPCA.
Itโs Sunday morning. Most people have a lazy lie in and enjoy a cup of coffee at their leisure but this is not meant for us. Sunday is like any other day as the calls and complaints donโt stop coming in.
I have been on the road since 6:30. It is busy and the phone never stops ringing. A call comes through reporting an emaciated dog in Walkerville. I ask the lady to stay in the vicinity as I am on my way.
Upon arrival approx 14 minutes later the person is nowhere to find. Well, I have travelled all this way might as well look around to see if I can spot the dog. It takes me two minutes. I see her lying under a tree. I stop the car, get out and gently call out to the dog. To my amazement she gets up and walks over to me. She collapses infront of me, her eyes telling me she has reached her end. I notice she has an embedded collar, she is full of sores and there is a particular bad open wound on her back . The wound is open all the way to the bone. It is maggot infested. This girl has been through hell and I gently load her in the vehicle, making sure she is lying on a thick blanket. Itโs Sunday and our vet account is very high. Seeing a vet on a Sunday also incurs extra costs. I throw caution into the wind and drive to the vet practice. We will recoup this money somehow. My only thought is to help this poor girl.
Itโs a long drive. Not so much in kilometers as in my head. I cannot help but shed tears. I see a lot of things but this girlโs trauma has become mine.
She was obviously kept on a chain and must have broken loose. She wandered around aimlessly looking for something to eat. Whether she was this emaciated when she was tied up or became so painfully thin after she had broken loose , she has been through a very hard time.
I arrive at the vet and I carry her inside. We see the vet and his sorrowful eyes confirm my thoughts. Too far gone. Her organs have started feeding on themselves in order to sustain her. She is approx 5 - 6 years old. As a la

News break from Ramsgate!
Sweep was spotted on the beach in Ramsgate doing zoomies and playing in the waves.
Sweep was adopted from the SPCA Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark and is now living his best life.
When not doing his acrobatic acts he was lounging under the umbrella being catered to by his family.
Sometimes we wish we could also be adopted.
Enjoy your best life Sweep!
Lotsa love,
Team SPCA Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark.

Rescuing Zoรซ ๐พ๐พ
Happily ever afterโฆ
โSometimes bad things happen to make space for good things to come..โ these are the words that resound in our minds on a daily basis.
Itโs with great joy that we can confirm that Zoรซ has found her forever home. Her name is now Zoรซ Emdin and her mom & dad, Rick and Lynn visit her everyday at the SPCA. Zoรซ has to stay until she has completed her inoculations but this has not deterred her new family. They are committed to giving Zoรซ the very best for her new life and their visits not only show their good intentions but also bring great enjoyment to the staff as they watch this little family bonding.
Cousin Rick, a host on a local radio station IFM, is a well known and much loved personality often lending his voice to the plight of our furry friends. One thing is certain and that Zoรซ will never have to face cruelty or neglect in her life again.
Thank you to each and every person that made a donation, lent their voice to Zoรซโs plight, called us with encouraging messages and took the time to comment on social media. We read every message and it gave us hope.
We are grateful. Thank you.
Zoรซ, here is to happy days!

Pupdate on Zoรซโฆ
A quick visit to the Vet this morning saw a very lively and happy little Zoรซ greeting us from her hospital bed.
She looks so much better and like any child that is convalescing she just wants to come home. The Parvovirus is very contagious and although she is better we cannot risk contamination by touching her. This was very hard and Zoรซ couldnโt understand why we didnโt hug her.
It is so nice to see such a happy little face in place of the very sick little body that we left there earlier this week.
We are grateful to the staff and Doctors at Three Rivers Rivers Veterinary Clinic. Grateful to our Suppawters for the contributions made. Zoรซ will probably be discharged on Monday and then we will have the full bill as well.
Until then, we stay positive that we will bring a happy, healthy little dog back to our offices.
We are because you care.
Thank you.
With much appreciation and gratitude.
