After 14 years of seeing her almost everyday, today we bid farewell to Dot, the LEAPS fieldworker as she is retiring. To some she was known as Antie Dot, to us she was just Ouma Dot. Normally one would thank someone for their years of working but in this case, we want to thank her for having a passion for animals and in return, living out her passion every day. This was never only a work for Dot, it was something that she was so passionate about doing, she knew every dog she met by name, the history of where they came from, cried with every dog or cat that died or had to be euthanised. Numerous times, stray dogs were reunited with their owners because Dot knew where they lived or at least in what street they moved around in. She did her very best with every animal that crossed paths with her, every one was loved and cared for by her. She was a firm believer in talking to every animal that crossed the rainbow bridge, telling them that their pain and suffering is almost over and that they shouldn't be scared, she's got them, from the first dog she held until the very last one,and she had them in her hands, until their final breath.
Animals also loved Ouma, maybe because they are more clever than us humans and they knew she was their Guardian angel. She always wanted to see the good in every person, that most people have a good soul, deep within.
We will definitely feel the loss in the community , now that Ouma does not drive around in her little white Golfie anymore, not only us, but so many animals that she helped. I think it is impossible to count the amount of dogs she had helped over the 14 years but on behalf of all of them, Thank you Dot, thank you for working relentlessly over the past 14 years, for being there, day and night, for giving your all and so much more. We salute you for everything you did with so much love and passion and for the footprints you left in the hearts of so many. You are a very special human being and we will miss you tremendously. We hope you enjoy your retirement, you deserve it. We love you ❤️ Please come and visit often and bring Yani with, she will miss her treats 😁
