This time last year, the Montpelier Steeplechase and Equestrian Foundation invited me to create their 2022 promotional race painting. They graciously hosted me for last year’s races to gather artistic inspiration. I hiked around exploring every angle of the gorgeous course which is located on the lawn of James Madison's Montpelier in Orange, Virginia. The Montpelier Hunt Races are held on the first Saturday every November, and are the final race of the National Steeplechases Asssociation’s season. Up to 20,000 people attend, many coming from the DC, Richmond and Charlottesville areas. If you haven’t been, It’s one of the most well organized, successfully laid out and managed racing grounds and spectator areas, with vendor tents, kid’s activities and beautiful mountain views.
An unveiling of this painting and opening exhibit reception with additional paintings of mine inspired by Virginia’s countryside, will be held on September 15th, 5 - 7pm. Free and open to the public. The Arts Center in Orange, 129 East Main St., Orange, VA 22960. . .
