This process is painful for puppies, so providing puppy-safe teething toys is highly recommended, as they want to chew on everything.
Providing puppy-safe chew toys (like the freezer safe chew-toys which can be cooled) for your puppy helps to relieve the itch and discomfort and helps sooth those sore gums. This also helps the baby teeth to fall out and make way for the adult teeth.
This is a good time to socialize your dog more, look and touch the inside and outside of its mouth, and prepare them for teeth brushing.
Your puppy is teething, the same way that human babies and children grow new teeth during their development. Like a human, your pup first grows a set of baby teeth (also called primary or deciduous, meaning they fall out).
These teeth are pointed and sharp, which is why they are sometimes referred to as needle teeth.
A retained or persistent deciduous (puppy) tooth for an adult dog can lead to oral diseases if it cannot fall out naturally. Common problems include a visually abnormal jaw position, overcrowding in teeth, palate biting, and difficulty biting or chewing. It can also cause bacteria overgrowth in the mouth which leads bad breath and dental diseases.
