Mandarin Duck

Description
The Mandarin duck is a beautifully colored bird with a greenish-black forehead and a purple crest near the back of the head. The sides of the head are creamy white with a chestnut patch below the eyes. The sides of the neck and the cheeks have longer brown feathers. The upper breast is maroon, and the lower breast and belly are white. The females are grayer and have a smaller crest and eye ring compared to the male.

Size
Adult birds may reach 21.0 to 24.5 cm (8.3 to 9.7 in.) in length.

Weight
Adult males can weigh up to 0.63 kg (1.4 lbs.). The females are larger and may reach 1.08 kg (2.4 lbs.).

Diet
These birds may feed on seeds, acorns, small fruit, insects, snails, and small fish.

Incubation
28 to 30 days

Clutch Size
Females lay 9 to 12 eggs and incubate the eggs 80% of the time.

Fledging Duration
6 to 8 weeks

Sexual Maturity
1 year

Life Span
6 to 7 years

Range
These birds can be found in Korea, Eastern Russia, China, Taiwan, and Japan.

Habitat
These birds in habit temperate forests near wetlands including rivers, streams, bogs, marshes, swamps, and freshwater lakes.

Rabbits are meticulously clean animals and are easy to house break and train. Much like a dog, a pet rabbit can be taught to come to his/her name, sit in your lap, and do simple tricks. Happy rabbits practice a cute behavior known as a “binky:” they jump up in the air and twist and spin around!

Vulturine Guinea Fowels

These birds have a bright blue body with black and white streaks and small white dots on the back feathers. They have a "horny" helmet on top of their naked heads. The head region is bright with blue, red, and yellow. The eyes are red and the beak is short and black. There is a band of tiny brown feathers on the back of its head. The males and females look very similar and are difficult to distinguish.

Diet
These birds will feed on seeds, roots, tubers, grubs, rodents, small reptiles and insects. They will occasionally feed on vegetation and fruits. So in Mixed grain will do.

Incubation
28 days; the chicks are precocial and have gold and brown-striped down plumage

Ostriches live mainly on vegetation but also take some animal food, mainly insects; they can go without water for long periods. Breeding males emit lionlike roars and hisses as they fight for a harem of three to five hens. A communal nest scraped in the ground contains more than a dozen shiny, whitish eggs. The major hen of the harem may get rid of some of the eggs to make incubation more manageable. The male sits on the eggs by night; the females take turns during the day. The chicks hatch in about 40 days and when a month old can keep up with running adults. To escape detection, chicks as well as adults may lie on the ground with neck outstretched, a habit that may have given rise to the mistaken belief that the ostrich buries its head in the sand when danger threatens. Ostriches are now raised for their meat and hide, which provides a soft, fine-grained leather. They do well in captivity and may live 50 years.
