Hello Barkpals, Compliments of the new year💫

2024 was not an easy year, but what doesn't end🤷🏼‍♂️? We gladly embrace the new year, with a new relief and belief that there much more.

When we came in the picture in 2020, founded by the goal was to make canine wisdom go viral, hoping that would end animal cruelty. We have transformed into much more and have added a lot of services to our usual dog trainings. We have also learnt a lot in the past 4 years, have trained little over 600 dogs, helped recover hundreds of missing dogs and walked a lot more dogs. Our general love for animals has made it possible to gain trust and be recommended as the epitome of not only Dog Training but also Integrated K9 Solutions.

We could not have gotten thus far had it not been for your unwavering support. Our Lost Pet Rescue Services has mainly been a voluntary programme and we can only cover more ground with more fuel donations. We are also hoping to acquire more motorbikes to make sure all lost dogs end up home quickly and safely before they are petnapped and or runover in our busy roads.

The last week of 2024 we carried out an Anti-Fireworks Campaign and we would like to do more of such campaigns in 2025. The hope is to cover topics like Importance of Sterilization & Vaccination, Animal Cruelty and effects of illegal Dog Breeding. Educational campaigns especially in schools will go along way in bringing up a generation of animal lovers, advocates and leaders in animal welfare.

We know the little we are doing will directly and indirectly contribute to less strays in streets and subsequently lead to less dogs ending up at shelters, so we will NEVER GIVE UP. To also encourage Adopting and not shopping, we are offering 1 free socialization training class to anyone who would have adopted a shelter dog.

Some interesting stats and studies on the effects of FIREWORKS🧨💣 Maybe this will help us STAY AWAY FROM FIREWORKS. is discouraging the USE OF FIREWORKS this festive season.

Noises caused by fireworks and firecrackers can lead to loss of hearing and tinnitus. Dogs are known to suffer irreversible hearing loss but also other animals have been affected. This write-up contains a few case studies from other areas to just enlighten on the effects of fireworks on animals. Our belief is no animal enjoys FIREWORKS

■ A New Zealand survey found that 6% of cats and dogs suffered physical injuries from fireworks, including road traffic accidents while trying to escape. Studies shows that noise fear represent the most common fear in dogs.

■ A recent study found that the majority of horses (79%) manifested anxiety around fireworks. According to BHS (British Horse Society) figures, since 2010, 336 horses were recorded as being killed or injured in firework-related incidents.

■ The effects of fireworks on animals can be observed very clearly in zoos. It has been shown that the noise of fireworks makes animals such as rhinos and cheetahs very nervous, also visibly affecting others such as elephants, while rodents continue running minutes after the noises cease

■ The noise of firecrackers can cause birds tachycardia (rapid heartbeat) and even death by fright. The high degree of stress birds experience is indicated by the fact that birds may temporarily or permanently abandon the places where they are. Disorientation and panic from fireworks can cause birds to crash into buildings or fly towards the sea. Creole ducks grow more slowly and have a lower body weight than Creole ducks who live in areas with little noise.

■ “Egg production in hens can definitely be affected by fireworks,” stated Dr. Michael Hoffman, DVM, an Army veterinarian with years of experience dealing with poultry.

Good day. Thank you for all your messages. Walta was found deceased. Thank you for all the support. The family is broken as they tried everything. tried looking under every leaf yesterday till about 7pm but we couldn't find her. Only for her to be found at the gate today. We suspect she slowly struggled to get home during the night and might have passed on there. It's very sad but it however brings much needed closure to us and his family.

Please take care of your pets. Statistics show that most dogs and cats go missing especially during these year end holidays. As has been the norm every year, we are also anticipating fireworks so please be extra cautious and make sure your gates are always closed and your perimeter is not leaky. For those travelling please make sure you have done arrangements for someone you TRUST to take care of your pets in your absence.

■ Please if you come across a stray kindly notify the responsible authorities and if possible wait while help is coming. A distressed pet who is lost travels very fast by the time help comes they will be long gone.

As we wind down on 2024, an eventful year filled with smiles, laughs, tears and sweat we are glad to be here. Glad to have learnt a lot, glad to have networked and glad to have grown. In a year we trained hundreds of dogs, a year we helped recover hundreds of missing dogs and help them get home safely, a year we walked hundreds of dogs we are very much are aware that "What feels like the end is often the beginning,”.

One of the highlights on our Lost Pet Searches this year was back in April when we were contacted to help look for Sky, a brindle male Belgian Malinois. He wasn't easy to track down but he had an Airtag tracker on and that was very handy in guiding us. He was missing for 38 days in total (from 10 April to 18 May). These are some of the things we can use to make it easy to track our dogs should they go missing. Consider getting one if you can.

How it works
- An Apple AirTag works by sending out a Bluetooth signal that nearby Apple devices can detect. This means if if your pet is donning an Airtag, it will send out a signal to their nearest apple device whose Bluetooth will be on. That device send the location of your AirTag to iCloud — then you will be alerted on your Find My app. The whole process is anonymous and encrypted to protect your privacy.

Here are some other things to know about AirTags:
■ AirTags can be used to track items like luggage, keys, pets, cars, and bikes.
■ AirTags are not compatible with Androids.
■ To set up an AirTag, you can pull the tab, hold the AirTag near an iPhone or iPad, and follow the prompts.
■ The AirTag's battery is a CR2032 coin cell battery that can last about one year with moderate daily use.
■ You can use the Find My app to make the AirTag beep to help you find it.
You can use Precision Finding to have your iPhone point toward the AirTag and tell you how far away it is

The festive season is upon us. The time to be thankful, to love, to give and to receive. This holiday when you go out and about with family and friends and make everlasting memories please remember shelter animals and staff. Though you may not necessarily be able to adopt (maybe you live in a smaller space or have other animals already) please DONATE.

Also remember the staff who works in our shelters and rescue centres. The dedicated hands who will be working throughout the holiday - because dogs and cats will need to eat and have kennels cleaned everyday. Remember the men and women who dedicate everything everyday for the hopeless animals who end up desperately wanting help. They are special and we love them.
