πŸŽ‰ What an incredible night! 🎡

A massive THANK YOU to MANN FRIDAY, for organizing an unforgettable fundraising concert for VAWZ. The event was a sold-out success πŸ™Œ

VAWZ address animal welfare issues, dealing with domestic animals, livestock and wildlife. We provide veterinary services, run rural sterilisation/vaccination programs, and manage two animal clinics.
The generosity and enthusiasm from everyone involved and all who attended, have made a huge difference and we are beyond grateful for all your contributions. Together, we are making a positive impact and supporting a cause that truly matters. πŸ’–

A huge thank you to Profeeds for putting together this fantastic video that gives insights into the important work conducted by the VAWZ Rural Animal Welfare Clinic!

VAWZ works tirelessly to better the lives of both animals and people in rural areas via the provision of services such as free rabies vaccinations and sterilizations for dogs and cats in communities where these services are not readily available.

Why is our work so important?

Vaccinations against rabies help to protect not only animals, but also people from contracting this deadly virus, as dog bites are the primary cause of rabies in humans in rural areas, with over 40% of human deaths from rabies being children. Rabies is 99% fatal and all animals suspected of having this virus are euthanized. Thus, these vaccines help to save both human and animal lives.

Sterilizations (spays/neuters) of rural dogs and cats help to control populations of these animals in rural areas, as well as to improve their health and welfare. VAWZ aims to improve the welfare of rural animals by getting to the root of the problem of uncontrolled breeding and preventing ripple effects such as the spread of disease, poor health and welfare, high numbers of strays and animals which are not cared for, and increased burdens on shelters due to an ever burgeoning stray population.

VAWZ relies entirely on public support to fund our work, and we extend our sincerest thanks to Profeeds for their continued support!

28 September is World Rabies Day, acknowledged annually to raise global awareness about rabies prevention. Rabies is a highly fatal viral disease that affects both humans and warm-blooded animals, but this disease is highly preventable via the use of vaccines.

In Zimbabwe it is required by law to have your dogs vaccinated against Rabies at the age of 12 weeks, again at 12 months, and then annually to ensure they are protected against this disease.

One of the key objectives of the VAWZ Rural Animal Welfare Clinic is to provide rabies vaccines to rural communities around the country, and spread awareness and information on rabies to as many pet owners as possible.

Rabies is a preventable disease even after a bite from a rabid animal has occurred if prompt post-exposure prophylaxis is administered, and you should seek immediate medical attention if bitten or scratched by any potentially rabid animal.

Dog-mediated rabies is a huge problem in Zimbabwe, and responsible vaccination of your pets is the first step in combating this terrible disease. A small effort on your part can go a long way towards saving both human and animal lives!
