The history behind the pedigrees of Harwin Arabians.
The phenotype and the genotype of a horse go hand in hand and both are equally important in how the end product results. A lot of thought goes into deciding which mare will go to which stallion at the start of every breeding season.
PART 1:
The dam pedigree of HA VHALENTINO (TR Veritas x Khwareno Ghala (Tehama Ali))
Vhalentino’s pedigree consists of some well known Russian Arabians through his sire, whilst the dam element of his pedigree consists of a lovely blend of old Egyptian, crabbet, domestic (American) and foundation Zimbabwean blood.
Khwareno Ghala (Tehama Ali x Khwareno Rakhshanda (Marrakesh Ruaal)) - the dam of HA Vhalentino. Ghala was bred by pioneer Zimbabwean Arabian breeder, Connie Hull at her stud in Bulawayo. Ghala is the only solid black purebred Arabian in the country. She has never been shown and joined our stud in 2022 as one of our foundation mares. Ghala was chosen for her sound conformation - clean straight legs, a level top line, small refined head and clean throatlatch. Ghala’s sire is the double Ruminaja Ali grandson, Tehama Ali (Ali El Din x Alis Pride (Ruminaja Ali)) who was imported in utero from the US in 1998. Tehama Ali’s sire was a full brother to the renowned Ali Jamaal.
Khwareno Rakhshanda (Marrakesh Ruaal x Valzani Carlita (Agha Storik)) - the dam dam of HA Vhalentino. Rakhshanda was foaled in 1991 at the stud of Connie Hull’s in Bulawayo. Shown extensively locally in the 90s, she was a judge favorite at many breed shows in the country, winning titles such as 1994 gold champion purebred Arab 2 & 3 year old at the Bulawayo Agricultural Society Show. 1994 Gold champion purebred Arab 2 & 3 year old at the Zimbabwe National Breed Show. Gold champion purebred Arab 3 year old at the 1995 Zimbabwe Arabian Nationals. 1996 Gold champion purebred Arab Mare at the Bulawayo Trade Fair. Rakhshanda was sired by the imported old Egyptian stallion, Marrakesh Ruaal, who’s dam sire, Anchor Hill Omar was a renowned imported stallion in South Africa - 1977 Stallion of the year, SA national champion stallion 1978. Through her sire, Khwareno Ghala also traces to The Shah (Fabah x Bint Fada (Fa-Serr)), who was one of the first Babson Arabians to be exported via boat. He was the 1978 World Champion Stallion at the Salon Du Cheval in Paris.
Valzani Carlita (Agha Storik x Rulene Radeemah (Vidiko Radames) - the dam dam dam of HA Vhalentino. Carlita was one of the first ever purebred Arabian foals foaled on Zimbabwean soil. Bred by Miss J Sonne at her stud in Mutare. Carlita produced 11 foals in her lifetime and is the Arabian broodmare with the largest number of foals produced on record in Zimbabwe. Aside from Rakhshanda, Carlita was the dam of Khwareno Mesaoud and Khwareno Salashah who both won numerous showing titles locally and in South Africa.
Rulene Radeemah (Vidiko Radames x Vlinkfontein Rabira (Vlinkfontein Rabizelle)) - the dam dam dam dam of HA Vhalentino. Radeemah was born at the stud of Mr. R Pines in South Africa. She appears in the second volume of the South African Arabian studbook. Imported in the 70s by Mrs. Sonne, she was one of the first purebred Arabian mares to be imported into Zimbabwe, and through her 10 foals, contributing to gene pool of the ‘Zimbabwean Arabian’.
HA VHALENTINO will stand his first season at stud in 2025. If his pedigree is anything to go by, he will produce solid, well conformed foals with pedigrees full of historic ancestors.
