Sometimes the simplest tweaks are all that is required when it comes to animal behaviour.

Lassie didn't want to eat the tuna I had put in the dish on the floor for her, she wanted to eat out of my bowl. After pushing her away a couple of times from my bowl I thought about it for a second.

Rather than putting her back on the floor to eat from the bowl which she didn't want to, I brought the bowl up onto the work surface so she could eat with me.

When thinking about animal behaviour it's quite nice to think, what might the animal want to do? Instead of, what do I want the animal to do. A lot of the time you can make a compromise and meet in the middle.

The highly recommended pet sitter, and my trusted colleague, Rebecca Witterick, has rare availability for overnight stays or day-sitting due to recent cancellations. These slots are available between the following dates:

- Sunday 2nd March – Wednesday 12th March
- Wednesday 26th March – Wednesday 23rd April

Rebecca provides a professional service by coming to stay in your home, ensuring your pets remain in their familiar environment. She is highly experienced with reactive and nervous dogs, understands their unique needs, offers exceptional care and attention and I would truly trust her with my own animals.

This is a rare opportunity to get on Rebecca’s books, as her availability is typically fully booked. Don’t miss out—please get in touch if you’re interested in arranging a meet-and-greet!

We have until February 7th to register our opposition to the planning permission to demolish the Bicknacre pet shop and replace with a supermarket that nobody wants.

Wonderful contact magazine article has been turned into a proforma below to make it easy for you. Link is to the planning permission you just need to register your opposition. Also got John whittingdale's email address below if you want to send it to him.

I am writing to formally object to the planning application for the proposed retail outlet development on the site of Priory Pet and Country Stores, Bicknacre. This proposal raises significant concerns that could adversely impact the character, safety, and well-being of the village and its residents.
1. Traffic and Safety Hazards The proposed site is located on Main Road, which is already heavily congested, particularly due to increased traffic from developments in nearby areas. Introducing a busy retail outlet between two mini-roundabouts will exacerbate traffic issues, creating a hazardous environment for drivers and pedestrians. The proximity to Jesters Kids Club and Nursery raises additional safety concerns, as children and parents frequently access this area.
2. Loss of Local Business and Character The demolition of Priory Pet and Country Stores would result in the loss of a beloved local business that serves the community. Furthermore, replacing it with a multinational retail chain would erode the village's unique character and undermine existing independent retailers, including Priory Village Stores and James Fruit & Veg.
3. Questionable Need for the Development Bicknacre is already well-served by supermarkets and convenience stores in nearby towns, as well as local shops within walking distance. There is no demonstrated need for another retail outlet. The argument that it will reduce car movements is unconvincing, as the development would likely attract more vehicles to the area, not fewer.
4. Impact on Existing Infrastructure The proposed site is unsuitable for a high-traffic retail outlet due to its location in a cul-de-sac and its reliance on limited infrastructure. The potential addition of measures like zebra crossings or expanded parking would further disrupt the area and negatively impact residents.
This proposal poses significant risks to the safety, sustainability, and character of Bicknacre. I urge the council to reject this application and instead prioritize developments that genuinely enhance the quality of life for residents without compromising safety, local businesses, or the village’s identity.
Thank you for considering this objection.
Yours sincerely,

🚨 Can You Help? 🚨 PLEASE SHARE!

Priory Pet Supply in Bicknacre, a much-loved, family-run healthy pet food shop, is being evicted to make way for a Tesco’s. This trusted business has been a lifeline for so many of us looking after our pets' wellbeing.

They’re urgently searching for a retail unit of approximately 1200-1300 sq ft in the Danbury, Bicknacre, or Sandon area so they can continue serving the community.

If you know of any available premises or have any leads, please comment below or get in touch. Let’s rally together and help them find a new home! 🐾

The planning permission link is here if you wanted to object to it as it's not going to be great for the area either.

Is your environment actually making your dog’s behaviour worse?

Just like a goat needs a field to graze in and a cat needs somewhere to climb, dogs need safe spaces to feel secure and relaxed. In our behaviour plans, we focus on providing dogs with the things they need to decompress, reduce stress, and build confidence.

Stress can impact learning, behaviour, and overall well-being, so creating a calm, safe space isn’t just a bonus it is as essential as food and water.

If you have a dog with behaviour issues, start by thinking about their environment, stress levels, and rest. Also, take a look at their daily diary—is it too busy? Dogs need balance, and cramming too many activities into their day can lead to an increase in unwanted behaviours.

If you’re interested in making positive changes to improve your dog’s behaviour, comment ‘safety’ below, and we’ll reach out to you!** 🌿🐾
