A knowledge sharing post. Healthy discussion is expected from experienced discus keepers. Today's topic: How to choose a healthy discus????????
When you are planning to buy a discus, How can you decide that it is healthy or not? What should be the parameter to choose a healthy discus?
Based on my experience i consider the below points:
1. Eye body ratio- small eye compared to body. Because bigger eyes and small body is common in stunted discus.

2. Round shape- discus must be round body or high body. Dont choose triangle shaped discus.

3. Feeding- discus should take feeding. A discus affected with internal parasite wll stop eating. Dont worry it can be cured by increasing temperature and dewormer.

4. Peppering- peppering is common in pigeon group discus. But too much peppering on face, fins, upper body means the genetics is poor or the discus is under stress.

5. Gill cut- always check that there is no gill cut or short gill.

6. Nature of the fish- a fish playing infront of the tank or moving with the group is a sign of healthy discus.

7. There should not have any fin rot, fin cut, white spotts on body. These are the common sign of a discus, affected by external bacteria.
