Canine Mitral Valve Repair Surgery performed for the first time in the UAE.
A very successful collaboration between British Veterinary Centre's cardiology team led by Dr Jose Botte and Professor Katsuhiro Matsuura of University of University of Florida led recently to three cases receiving surgical treatment for the commonest heart disease found in Dogs.
All three cases had successful outcomes and now look forward to a normal life span without heart medications.
Special thanks to Dr. Dorian Gaeta and UAE's Small Animal Blood Blood bank for provision of blood products needed during cardiopulmonary bypass.
Isabela
"Meet Isabela, a brave Siamese cat who was brought to us by a caring person. When she arrived, Isabela was in a tough spot, struggling to stand and having problems with three of her legs. After a thorough check-up, we discovered she had serious injuries: a dislocated elbow and damaged ligaments in both her back legs. Our skilled vet, Dr. Jonathan, performed a special surgery to fix her legs. We're thrilled to say Isabela has made an amazing recovery! She's back on her feet, walking, and ready to find a forever home. This sweet, 6-year-old girl is waiting for a loving family at our Khalifa City Branch. Come visit her and see how far she's come!"
Meet Lola! She recently had heart surgery to close an abnormal blood vessel close to her heart. Before surgery Lola was destined to heart failure with life expectancy of no more than a year or two. Thanks to the amazing teamwork of surgeon Dr AJ and heart expert Dr. Jose Lola's feeling much better and can look forward to a long and happy life.

With the appropriate medical treatment and the care of our wonderful team, Laska can now run freely with her very own set of wheels and we are optimistic that she will eventually no longer need them.

Anejo, the French bulldog was referred to us from another veterinary hospital suffering from a broken humerus which needed orthopedic surgery.
Dr. AJ successfully stabilized the fracture and Anejo is now recovering with our team closely monitoring his progress.
Bunda, a tiny Pomeranian puppy weighing only 850g recently came to us with a persistent wet cough. Ultrasound revealed a life threatening congenital heart defect. Dr. Aj and Dr. Jose teamed up to perform microscopic repair surgery on this exceptionally tiny patient and we are happy to say she is recovering well.
We all wish her a long and happy life.
Charlie was a referral patient brought in for an ultrasound with our cardiologist, Dr. Jose.
Charlie was so well-behaved throughout the exam that praise and a special treat were immediately prescribed. 🐾❤️

FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus.
This virus is mainly spread among cats via bite wounds during fighting, but can also pass from a mother to her kittens during pregnancy or lactation.
Casual contact such as sharing food bowls, or snuggling is very unlikely to be associated with transmission.
Because the main mode of transmission is via bite wounds, it is quite a common virus amongst the local street or rescue cat population here in Abu Dhabi.
FIV can be tested quite easily and accurately at our in-house laboratory.
The virus can suppress the immune system, and therefore can cause a wide variety of symptoms. It can also make your cat more prone to catching diseases or affecting their recovery from illness.
With proper care and management, however, many infected cats can have a good quality of life for many years.
One study of 1205 cats in Canada showed no difference in lifespan between FIV-infected and uninfected cats.
