Bringing home a new pet rabbit can be an exciting and rewarding experience! To ensure a smooth transition, it's important to be well-prepared. Here's some of our top tips:

Prepare Your Home: Set up a safe living space, remove hazards, and gather supplies like a hutch, bedding, food bowls, water bottle, chew treats and a hide. Do your research to ensure you choose appropriate housing and toys.

Choose the Right Rabbit and Supplies: Pick a breed and size that fits your lifestyle. Invest in quality supplies to keep your rabbit healthy and happy.

Introduce Them Slowly: When bringing your rabbit home, start by placing them in their cage with fresh water and food. Let them explore at their own pace and gradually introduce new toys and play areas. Avoid overwhelming and overhandling them too quickly, give them space to explore.

Feeding and Care: Provide a diet high in fiber and low in fat with plenty of timothy hay, fresh veggies, and a small amount of pellets. Keep their space clean and offer lots of exercise opportunities. Fresh water daily is essential. Regular grooming and vet check-ups are crucial.

Bonding: Spend time daily with your rabbit, talk to them calmly, and offer treats. Let them approach you on their terms. Handle them gently to build trust.

Expect behaviors like chewing, hopping, socializing, grooming, thumping, and joyful zoomies. Every rabbit is unique, and with love and patience, you'll build a strong bond with them ๐Ÿฐโค๏ธ

Are you a dog owner dealing with mealtime madness? Many dogs eat too quickly, leading to digestive issues and other health problems. Slow feeding bowls are a fantastic solution, encouraging a more measured eating pace for your furry friend.

So, what are slow feeding bowls? Also known as anti-gulp bowls, they come in various sizes and styles, from large bowls for big dogs to small silicone plates and mats. These bowls feature ridges, mazes, or obstacles, making dogs work for their food and slowing down the eating process.

Why choose a slow feeder over a traditional bowl? Dogs that eat too fast can suffer from obesity, digestive issues, and choking hazards. Slow feeders promote healthy eating habits, provide mental stimulation, and reduce the risk of choking. They can even help prevent bloat, a serious condition in dogs.

There are many types of slow feeders, like puzzle feeders, maze bowls, and spiral feeders. Choose the right one based on your dogโ€™s size and eating habits for maximum benefits. Make mealtime healthier and happier for your dog with a slow feeding bowl! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฅฃ

Caring for yourself after pet loss โค๏ธ

Losing a pet is never easy, especially when they are your best friend. The pain can be overwhelming as pets love unconditionally and become integral parts of our lives. When they pass away, it feels like a part of us is taken away too. Grieving is natural, and everyone experiences it differently. Acknowledging your feelings and finding ways to honor their memory can help you cope.

Grief after losing a pet can be just as intense as losing a human loved one. It's okay to feel sadness, anger, guilt, or denial. Everyone grieves differently; some may need time alone, while others find solace in family and friends. Honor your feelings and take the time you need to heal.

There are five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Not everyone goes through these stages in the same order, and some may skip stages. It's important to allow yourself to feel your emotions and find healthy ways to express them, like journaling, creating a scrapbook, or talking to loved ones.

Self-care is crucial during this time. Prioritize sleep, eat a healthy diet, and engage in physical activity. Practice relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga. Take breaks when needed and allow yourself to recharge.

Honoring your petโ€™s memory can also help. Create a memorial, display photos or keepsakes, or write a letter to your pet. Finding support through pet loss support groups or online communities can provide comfort. If you're struggling, seek professional support from a therapist or counselor.

Remember, grieving is a process that takes time. Cherish the memories of your pet and take the time you need to heal. You are not alone.

Enhancing Your Dog's Mobility ๐Ÿฆด๐Ÿฆด

Dogs can face mobility problems due to age, injury, illness, or genetic conditions. Mobility challenges can significantly impact a dog's quality of life, affecting their physical and emotional well-being. Dogs rely on their mobility to engage in essential activities such as exercise, play, and social interaction. Having a chat to your vet is essential to diagnose the specific cause and determine the best interventions and treatment.

Physical Therapy: Physical therapy treatments like bowen therapy, laser, hydrotherapy and balance training can make a significant difference in pet mobility. Consistency is key! Our friends at Canine Howlistic Health in Bangalow offer an amazing range of theraputic options, we so lucky to have this availabe so close!

Veterinary Interventions: This may involve medications to manage pain and inflammation, surgical procedures to correct structural abnormalities, or ongoing medical management for chronic conditions.

Assistive Devices: Tools like wheelchairs, harnesses, ramps, and pet buggies can help dogs regain independence. Choose devices based on your dog's specific needs and consult a professional for guidance.

Home Modifications: Create a comfortable and accessible environment with non-slip surfaces, raised food dishes, and supportive bedding. Removing obstacles and adding ramps can make it easier for your dog to move around.

Proper Nutrition: A balanced diet with high-quality protein, healthy fats, omegas and supplements that can support joint health. There are some fabulous mobility supplements on the market. We recommened Antinol and 4cyte.

By implementing these strategies, you can enhance your dog's quality of life and help them thrive despite mobility challenges. Embrace the journey and unleash a better life for your dog! ๐Ÿถโค๏ธ

How to Safely Transition Your Cat to a New Litter ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’›

Switching your cat's litter can be challenging, but it doesn't have to be. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you make the transition smoothly.

Why Change Cat Litter?
There are various reasons for switching your cat's litter: better odor control, more absorbency, less tracking, or environmental friendliness. Cats are creatures of habit, so a gradual transition is key.

Choosing the Right Litter:
Consider your catโ€™s preferences and health needs. For example, avoid dusty litters if your cat has respiratory issues. If your cat is picky about texture, you may need to experiment with different types of litter. Once you've selected a new litter, prepare for a gradual introduction over a week or 2.

Gradual Introduction
Start by mixing a small amount of the new litter with the old one. Over a week or two, slowly increase the proportion of the new litter. This helps your cat get used to the new texture and scent without feeling overwhelmed. Be patient and don't rush the process.

Monitor Your Cat's Behaviour:
Watch for any signs of hesitation or avoidance. If your cat seems uncomfortable, slow down the transition. Patience is crucialโ€”every cat adjusts at their own pace. Ensure to keep a very close eye on them as we dont want them to become stressed and develop any urinary issues.

Complete the Transition
Once your cat is comfortably using the new litter, make the switch entirely. Remove all the old litter and replace it with the new. Ensure the litter box is clean and consider adding extra boxes during the transition.

With these tips, you can help your cat adjust to a new litter smoothly and stress-free. ๐Ÿ˜ฝ

Did You Know Your Rabbit's Dental Health is Crucial! ๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿฐ

Rabbits are adorable pets, but their dental care is vital for their overall health. Unlike humans, rabbit teeth never stop growing, which means they need regular wear to avoid serious problems like overgrowth and painful dental issues.

๐Ÿ˜ซSigns of Dental Problems:

- Drooling or excessive salivation
- Difficulty eating or weight loss
- Decreased activity level
- Grinding teeth or pawing at the mouth
- Facial swelling or abscesses
- Runny eyes or nose
- Bad breath

๐Ÿฆท Maintaining Dental Health:

1. Diet: Provide plenty of hay and fresh vegetables like kale, spinach, and carrots. Hay is essential as it helps wear down their teeth naturally. Avoid sugary or starchy foods.
2. Regular Checks: Check your rabbit's teeth and gums regularly for any signs of problems.
3. Chew Toys: Offer chew toys to help keep their teeth healthy and strong.
4. Vet Visits: Schedule regular dental check-ups with us.

Why Teeth Overgrow:
In the wild, rabbits naturally wear down their teeth by chewing on fibrous foods. Domestic rabbits need similar roughage in their diet to maintain healthy teeth. Insufficient hay and an over-reliance on pellets can lead to dental issues.

When to Seek Professional Help:
If your rabbit shows signs of dental problems, don't wait. Early detection and treatment can prevent more serious health issues!

Keep your bunny happy and healthy with proper dental care! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿฆท

10/07/2024

Is your dog constantly licking its paws ๐Ÿพ? This behavior can be very stressful for pets and owners and it might indicate underlying issues that need attention. Hereโ€™s a quick guide to help you understand the potential causes and find solutions.

Anxiety: Dogs, like humans, can experience anxiety, leading to behaviors like paw licking. This can be a self-soothing mechanism. Signs of anxiety include pacing, panting, and destructive behavior. Creating a safe and comforting environment, maintaining a consistent routine, and providing mental and physical stimulation can help alleviate anxiety. In some cases a consult with a behaviourst is needed.

Allergies: Allergies to food, environmental factors, or materials can also cause paw licking. It can be very helpful to conduct an elimination trial diet to identify specific allergens, seeking veterinary advice for this is recommended. Environmental allergens like pollen, dust mites, and grasses can also trigger paw licking. Keeping your home clean, using air purifiers, and bathing your dog with hypoallergenic shampoos can help.

Medical Conditions: Injuries or infections in the paws can cause pain, leading to licking. Regularly inspect your dog's paws for signs of injury, such as redness, swelling, or discharge. Underlying conditions like arthritis or autoimmune diseases might also result in paw licking. A veterinarian can provide a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

By understanding and addressing the root causes of paw licking, you can help your furry friend find relief and improve their overall well-being. If you have concerns, please get in touch for advice ๐Ÿฉต
