Iggy, one of the baroque horse so bred, who landed in a fantastic home, is back with me for a prep as a 2yo.
We got his teeth done by the amazing Benita’s Equine Dentistry Services, so we can begin some mouthing work.
Working in the long reins is such a nice way to develop a connection for both horse and handler that is a stepping stone to riding, while being able to work as slow and straight as you want to, to be kind on young bodies.
It’s a great way for them to start learning the questions that might be asked in the arena, develop a healthy postural connection to the bridle, and also learn to follow the energy/direction/intentions and process of the aids, of the handler, which creates an understanding that is helpful in all handling and riding.

I’ve had the pleasure of getting Novena going undersaddle, and can vouch for her incredible temperament and type 🤩
I’ve also been handling her reprod vet visits, and I’m so excited she has some embryos cooking 🥰

Arla’s been having a bit more of a play the last few weeks, continuing some mouthing work, some liberty work, and just lots of coming in and being loved on. She’s such a sweet soul.
And today, out to have a break while the next parts of the plan unfold for her 🥰

Spirit has been hanging with some friends, growing out 💛 he’s a bit over 18 months now and I’m so impressed with how he’s maturing!

The overdue mane trim is just gonna have to wait till he comes home for his next prep in summer. I’m really excited to play with him and see more of where his mind and body are at ☀️

Having a couple of rides in the days leading up to the shoot, and about 20 rides in his whole life, he acted like an old hand.
On and off the float several times for several locations, so kind to handle and patient whilst we played with ideas, and riding amongst the trees and in the open like a seasoned horse.

The last photos of Forever Lloyd from his 3PE debut and success 💛
Placing in each of the three comps of the series, with some lovely dressage tests, good style phase and having a reasonable go at the speed phase. And ending with a win overall for the series 🤩
I was incredibly nervous the entire time and he kept me safe ☀️ he is always quietly picking up the slack in our partnership, and for that I am so grateful.

Spirit showing the easy breezy gaits he has to offer

Forever Lloyd having some bridless plays 💛 It was early on in his training undersaddle that we did 2 or 3 intro sessions to bridless riding before venturing down to the beach for a shoot with Erin Maree Photography. Doubly wild since he was not only green but had barely been out and about, certainly never seen the beach, and I took him with a mare I also wanted a shoot with. And all without a second thought really. And a couple of years later we had another 2 or 3 follow up rides bridless before heading to Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary to conquer their obstacles bridless! Also rather wild of me given I don’t love being out of the arena, let alone on wide open grassed areas and on wibbly wobbly obstacles of all things. But this reliable willing dude didn’t miss a beat!

Forever Lloyd

Some snippets from schooling with Lloyd 💛 Amidst the ever evolving quality of the connection and gaits, we are always playing with something new. This year has been some short step and the preparation for the flying changes! Next year will be clean changes and working towards tempis, and some piaffe, amongst other things. Always playing with the boundaries of collection and extension, and the adjustability within and between. And forever working on myself to try to keep up with this pony!
