Hello everyone,

I have most recently been walking around the local parks and waterfront, and just wanted to point out two things for any dog and cat owners more as a precaution:

- can everyone please ensure their fluffy is up to date with an appropriate paralysis tick prevention and daily run your hands all over them from nose to tail, even around lips and between toes. If unsure if they’re up to date or you find a lump that wasn’t there a couple of days ago, please contact your local vet immediately. This season is extremely bad, and we’re noticing many cases in areas of suburbia that have never previously had this issue now having it. There is now a national shortage of tick antiserum, so vets are strongly relying on owners to ensure everyone is up to date with paralysis tick prevention. Prevention is key to keeping your fluffy safe and alive whilst not overwhelming veterinary staff.

- the cane toads are out in force. I’ve seen 7 in one night. Please take note to keep your fluffy indoors or in a secure area outdoors particularly between dusk and dawn. If they’ve licked or eaten a cane toad, please contact your vet immediately.

These are both serious medical emergencies in the veterinary world and preventable with the help of owners, so please do the right thing and take preventive measures for the sake of your loved one, which will also save big dollars to your bank account 🙏
