Much thanks to old schoolmate John Porter for allowing us to share the following poem by his Mum.
QUEENSLANDER
By Norma Porter
Born 18-01-1929
How’s your heart this morning is it pounding like a drum
For tonight we are doing battle at Suncorp Stadium.
Our Queenslanders will run on resplendent in maroon
For when it comes to Origin they’re the best the game has known.
First it was Artie Beetson’s boys who made the rafters ring
And then came Wally Lewis our Emperor and the King.
The list goes on forever too many stars to name
And now our hero Locky will lead our team to fame.
If ever you’ve been to Lang Park on State of Origin Night
The atmosphere is charged so high you shouldn’t strike a light.
Your heart is pounding madly you shout you yell you sing
Tell the ref he’s got a whistle so blow the bloody thing.
And tonight we’ll stand in unison no ordinary bystander
Our Battle Cry will then ring out “Queenslander! Queenslander! Queenslander!"
