Why it’s not a good idea to be a Vet Student & a nurse with pets.

Nurse Nicole who is in her 3rd year of Vet School brought her dog in today to have this canine tooth removed.

Last week he suffered maybe some kind of traumatic event & came in with a swollen face or perhaps it was just the tooth with abnormal development of the enamel resulting in death of the tooth, but essentially it was not looking healthy & had to go.

During placement of the endotracheal tube for anaesthesia, I was seeing abnormal anatomical position of the epiglottis making intubation very challenging.

So after the procedure I decided to further my knowledge and did a quick PHD in Dr google & found something similar to what I saw.

Epiglottic retroversion 🤔🤷‍♀️🤓

Cool case 😎

PRE-ANAESTHETIC BLOODWORK - Is it important?

We were all set & ready to start this little poppets eye enucleation surgery today but found on his bloodwork he had quite a significant anaemia.

We have now postponed his surgery momentarily until we can figure out his anaemia & get him safely through surgery.

It’s moments like this, we are grateful for basic pre-anaesthetic bloods.

For some of our regulars who remember Kaitlyn our Saturday nurse.

Kaity has taken some time off for studies, now almost at the end of her 4th year in Veterinary Science, Kaity has been back doing some shifts during her mid semester break.

Because the vets animals are always the sacrificial lambs 🫢, I took the opportunity to Spey my bitch & had Kaity put her back together.

I have to say, that apart from that red line that I put there, you would not know she had stitches.

So so proud of Kaity

So after 3 odd days of vomiting & no persuasion via gentle encouragement (aka medical management) our repeated blood test confirmed that our patient was in fact starting to become more affected so we had to make a decision, and this was the answer.

Thankfully mum & dad were able to move to the next step…..

Miss Merle had her first dental clean this week, she will be 5 in October.

She’s been sitting at a Grade 1 for a couple of years and I had intended to get her in for a little clean but of course everyone else’s pets come first.

Just recently I noticed a different smell to her mouth, and I think this is because I had recently introduced some wet food where before she had only been forever on, Delicate Care, Delicate Care dental diet & dental treats as well as Oravet Chews. Her assessment had moved to Grade 2. I have never brushed Merle’s teeth - Bad Mother 😩

So fearing infection creeping in, she was scheduled in for her first dental.

We have had the Dental X-ray machine for 3 years now & I can’t emphasize how much having X-rays to guide treatment improves the outcome.

Miss Merle had two extractions on Monday, two tiny front teeth on the bottom jaw (incisors). There was a some minor loss of jaw bone & some areas to keep a close eye on.

The price of our low grade (1 & 2) dental cleaning has been capped at $450 for existing clients & for pets assessed in the last 6 months. This price does not include extractions if required or blood tests (compulsory for pets over 7 years or with pre-existing illnesses), it does however include beautiful full mouth X-rays which will provide the best treatment outcome.

If you are new to our page and are interested in a dental assessment, we have a discounted consult for mouth & pre-anaesthetic assessment for $55. This is a 15 minute appointment and does not include assessment for other health issues.

Alternatively our short consult includes a full body exam as well as an oral assessment.

Bookings can be made online for the vet clinic www.snobbypetsvet.com.au

The uterus is a wonderful organ, it’s also very capable of hiding infection, until it is not.

It’s not unusual for bi***es to carry this infection all the while, you are unable to see the signs of illness.

Maybe you might sense something is just not right but not obviously wrong.

Like most illnesses you can’t see, your dog is just a great pretender.

They may still eat, drink, play & act like nothing is wrong.

Thank you to all clients affected this week regarding my injured foot & rescheduling of appointments.

I did do it quite tough being at work this week, to be honest, I can’t really confirm I’m properly on the mend, as I’m still in a fair bit of pain.

PICTURE: This is how I felt during the local block at the hospital on Sunday. I’m actually grateful your pets do not feel such pain during similar procedures.

CUSTOMER PARKING Everyone

If you haven’t visited us for a while, we have opened up some spaces for VET CLINIC visitor parking because we are now parking our vehicles in the common areas of the complex. We have surrendered our staff allocated car spaces for our most cherished business asset (You 😍).

What is astonishing is that our clients seem to be the most respectful out of all the businesses so far as parking is concerned. You actually park in the visitor spaces.

Even now since we have signage for vet clinic parking, you are still parking in visitor spaces. You’re really just amazing.

It’s then disappointing when we have visitors to other businesses in the complex taking the opportunity to use YOUR car spaces & park in front of our rollers doors in the common area, and rather than apologising for their behaviour, they are making us feel like we are like the parking Mafia and being a bunch of #%*+

So folks, feel free to park in two allocated spaces & thank you for always being so respectful 🥰

We have a Good Samaritan client who has rescued a litter of kittens.

There is one left to rehome, today she was health checked, she had her first vaccination & microchip so it would be lovely to think our Good Samaritan can be compensated ($68)

Because she is the result of unplanned breeding, she’s not had the best start to life with socialisation. Fortunately she is still in the right age bracket & in less than a week is actually interacting well with hoomans.

She looooves her pats, she is super smoochie & affectionate but is still a little frightened. In the right home she will thrive.

Best suited to an adult home or a home with teenagers. Nothing against little ones but she’s just too shy & needs a calm environment.

Litter mates appear to have Ragdoll in them
