Constriction in Brown Snakes.
While Brown Snakes are known to kill their prey with a fast acting venom, they don’t just rely on this lethal cocktail.
In most cases Browns will constrict their prey while they wait for the effects of their venom to kick in.
Constriction can occur for the following reasons.
- Reducing the danger from getting injured by the claws and teeth (e.g. incisors in rodents) of their prey.
- Immobilising the prey to avoid escape to an inaccessible area before the venom shows effect.
Snakes in captivity aren’t aware their prey is already dead and they don’t have to kill it.
In this case ‚Bobby Brown‘ even flicked over when vigorously subduing the mouse.

Took a photo of this little dude at 6am this morning at my back fence to walk out my gate at 8am to find him hit by a car outside my gate . I have a slow down wildlife on road sign on my fence yet my little friend didn’t make it back home to the gumtrees across the road !!!
Seriously people 50 km you should be able to slow down enough to miss them . He has been visiting my home for a few years now and was only trying to get home to sleep !
I was shattered I moved him and cried. To people they are pests to me it is a creature just doing its own thing , sorry my poor little friend ( old ring tail possum ) .

Snake catchers Australia shared post

Its definitely that time of year.
Juvenile tigersnakes and copperheads are popping up all over the peninsula.
Also adult snakes courting, fighting and mating.
The baby snakes are coming into buildings under doors so using draught stoppers will slow them down.
They are also being bought into the homes by cats, problem solved when cats are kept responsibly, meaning inside or in cat runs.
Summer might be over but no one has told the snakes that.
They didn't get the memo.
Autumn is predicted to be a warm one so stay alert, stay safe and be nice to snakes

6 … ….. ????
No joke ….6 Snake Rescues TODAY and it’s only
November …….
lol This season started early this year here on the island .
I just want to have a little rant 😎😝
so scroll on if you
don’t care ….
but hopefully i can try and remind the ones who do.

You know those things 🤨
i think their called HUMANS .. Their a species of MAMAL,
well they have chosen to inhabit this BEAUTIFUL Island because of its beauty, lifestyle and tranquility.
With this comes some amazing attractions like coffee shops, beaches, holiday resorts ext…… NOT to mention the caring, friendly and helpful community we are so lucky to have (yay to you all)…….
BUT SOME HUMANS are forgetting about our responsibility’s 🥺😞😩
To respect, care and understand that we share this whole island with some amazing wildlife and we share its natural habitat too !!!!!
The amount of new developments popping up all over the island our wildlifes homes are being destroyed, they are being evicted from their natural environment.
That’s why they are seeking refuge closer to human population .
this isn’t something the animals have just decided to do,
they don’t have a choice …
We all know we have a flight or fight mode, it’s in our instincts.
Well so do Animals !
On the island we have a beautiful venomous snake.
The Lowland copperhead. Scientific name, Australapsuper bus.
A very shy species of snake but is VERY dangerous / venomous
if bitten or interacted with.
Interactions are happening more often than people know as our population is growing
So i have a few tips …..

#1 Really important ….
If you hear your dog barking please go check what it is trying to tell you.

#2 keep your lawns mowed low.

#3 Dead branches and leaves removed frequently .

#4 Don’t leave piles of firewood / fence pailing
green waist/garbage
lying around in piles on the ground.

#5 stack wood up on crates.

#6 Do not to leave water bowls out and tip flowerpot bottoms out so there’s no water around.

#7 If you do have an encounter with one of our local snakes …
TRY and stay calm and still,
If it’s posible take a few big steps back and walk a safe distance and leave it on its way .
If you can’t move,
stay still and calm and let the snake move on it’s way as it will eventually.
If you feel you / pets or the snake is unsafe please call A snake catcher.
Victoria has a site snakecatchers. com all you do is type in your post code and the snake catchers Numbers in your suburb will come up .

#7 if you see a snake on your premises “again safe distance, if you have children and pets keep them inside for 24 /48 hr .
Pets inside and on a leash to go to the toilet for the 24-48 hr.
if you feel that you would like the Snake relocated if it doesn’t move on after a period of time or that it’s unsafe for you and the Snake PLEASE keep your eyes on the snake ( not go grab a drink and play candy crush ) do not take your eyes off the snake AT ALL …. So the catcher has a better chance of relocating it .
If you need a snake catcher on the island give islandpythons a call
on 0476877769 we are 24/7 OR jump on the website
snakecatchers.com
please be kind to the snake
as they are only trying to survive.
The island isn’t really that big once you accomodate for people and our animals especially holiday season…….
Rant complete.

So very true.

I didn't grow up with Mr. Irwin. Mutual Omaha and truly EDUCATIONAL Wisconsin antenna only channels as well as special occasions like Rudolph and Charlie Brown Halloween were reasons for me to be allowed in the living room. I snuck next door for Dukes and Atari and was grounded for a month for seeing Rambo in the Fort Atkinson movie theater.

I grew up country. IN the country. I quickly learned that animals are reliable and totally predictable, whereas people are inherently not.

Folk always ask,
"What is the most dangerous animal you have ever worked with?"

My immediate, heartfelt answer is, "humans".

I am the luckiest man of the on the face of this earth. I have been paid for a couple decades to take care of "wildlife dilemmas". I do not look at them as such. These are human and wildlife conflicts.

We attract animals because people are inherently and unintentionally pigs. We have garbage. Wildlife adores our garbage, which includes food. Wildlife adapts quicker than humans. We unintentionally provide the three things wildlife wants. Food, water and shelter. I address these simple things for a living, from wildlife's point of view.
