When you accidentally leave a sliding door just a teeny bit open and a juvenile GTF goes walkabout for 2 days 😆

The tank he was found in has an open back to access a waterfall pump, heater & filter and was a lovely warm spot to sleep! Add in free range of loose crickets and someone was living their best life 😂🐸

I always have water available in the frog room, as it’s a fact of frogkeeping life that sometimes a froggie is going to get out. Whether that’s by launching when you open a door or human error of not shutting one properly. Having a secure room is incredibly important, so that there’s no risk of escaping outside!

We have some fallax heading off to an exciting new home shortly, which required a Chytrid test. No easy feat to swab tiny metamorphs 🐸

The test results came back negative a couple of weeks ago, which is always a relief! Just the thought of Chytrid Fungus is enough to strike terror in any keeper’s heart, even more so when you have a large collection.

Quarantine for new arrivals, purchasing frogs from reputable breeders/keepers and always being aware of the health of your frogs are a few of the key steps to preventing this infectious disease from entering a collection.

Introducing “Potato” aka Stumpy, Truffle, “insert all expensive potato varieties”

Potato is a juvenile Great Barred Frog - Mixophyes fasciolatus 🐸

This little fellow had an unfortunate accident during travel to NSW (was likely sat on by a larger travel buddy and perhaps tried to launch/twist away) and arrived with one leg not looking like the others!!

Off to UPV in Canberra he went and X-rays showed a dislocated knee & a broken femur.

Decision was made to amputate and the 14g superstar blitzed through the surgery and is recovering well.

He’s still figuring out his balance and occasionally tips over when launching for a cricket, but with any luck he’ll go on to have a cushy life of a beloved pet (yes he was instantly claimed by my son!) 💚
