PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

If you haven’t taught your dog to do this yet…then it’s your responsibility to do it for them!

It is extremely disappointing to arrive at the salon in the morning and find dog poo in the arcade walk through and all over the car park. This may not necessarily be from any of our clients visiting the salon as a lot of people walk their dogs through this area throughout the day but regardless for your reason to have your dog down the street, it is YOUR dog and YOUR responsibility to pick up after it.
If picking up poo grosses you out or you just plain don’t want to pick it up, that’s completely understandable, so my advice to you would be to keep your dog at home then.
Let’s keep our town clean and be responsible pet owners.
Thankyou kindly from your lovely dog groomer who deals with enough 💩 inside the salon, I do not need to deal with it outside as well. 😊🐶

✨Puppy Classes are on the way!✨

I am so excited to be able to start teaching again - it really is something I love! Who would like to join me?

I am collaborating with the lovely Leanne at Paws n Relax Holistic Pet Grooming Deniliquin to bring you some education around behaviour.

Classes I am keen to offer include:

🐶 Puppy school - training for you and your new fur-baby to give them the best chance of being a well-mannered, well-regulated, wonderful part of your family.

🐶 General behaviour class - what are 'normal' behaviours for dogs that can be adjusted with training? What is a behavioural problem that needs a more therapeutic approach? How can we help our dogs be calm and well-mannered?

🐶 Older dog classes - for those excitable, reactive dogs who might have missed out on puppy school or just need a little extra attention to help them learn manners and adjust to different situations.

I would love to know who might be interested in classes - or any suggestions for other topics you might like a class or workshop for!

EDITED TO ADD: Clifford has now found a lovely new home!

One of my lovely patients finds himself in need of a new home.

Clifford is a loveable 7 month old Labradoodle. Sadly, some of the older furry members of his family have been unable to adjust to a new puppy and his owners have regretfully decided that it would be in Clifford's best interests to find a new home.

He is a very loving, happy dog, great with kids and would love enough space to run around. Up to date with vaccinations and heartworm injections and is microchipped.

If you think Clifford would suit you, or know of anyone who would love him, message or comment here. Alternatively you can call his owners on 0428 817 741

Many of my clients work within my usual work hours, so appointment times can be tricky. I am considering adding appointments on a Saturday once a month. Who would find this helpful?

My poor Missy is getting hammered by mosquitoes around her face. Today I made up a lotion of lavender, frankincense and copaiba essential oils, heavily diluted in fractionated coconut oil. I just drop some in my palms and massage over her poor swollen face to give some relief - making sure none gets in her eyes!

Is your dog's heartworm prevention up to date?

With the explosion of mosquito numbers in our area, the risk for heartworm transmission is vastly increased.

Heartworm is a parasite that lives in the heart and major blood vessels in your dog. The larvae are spread via mosquito bites, entering your dog's bloodstream and growing to large adult worms. The presence of worms in the heart and vessels puts your dog at risk of clots, respiratory disease, anaphylaxis, congestive heart failure and even death. And in this case, prevention is absolutely better than cure as the treatment itself comes with risks.

The easiest most convenient heartworm preventative is a Proheart annual injection. To discuss options for keeping your dog safe from this disease, feel free to message or call me on 0455 613 683.

✨'While you can't shut out illness entirely, you can make the body a place where health thrives.'✨ (source unknown)

This quote perfectly sums up my approach to health care. But what exactly is Holistic Care?

Just what it says - holistic: considering the 'whole'. The whole animal - mind, body and spirit AND the whole range of possible supports, balanced for the best outcome. As well as considering the owner-animal unit! ☺️

EVERYTHING is on the table, a balance of 'alternative' and western ideas.

Nutrition is a corner-stone of helping health thrive - avoiding additives, inflammatory oils and carbohydrates as much as possible and actively promoting gut health.

Vaccination - but not over-vaccination. Recognising that it serves a specific purpose, but still puts pressure on the body while responding to it.

Antibiotics - if and when absolutely necessary, but not 'just in case'. Recognising that they in themselves harm the gut micro-biome, which will need repair to help health thrive.

Recognition that western medicine, whilst crucially important in many cases, is not the only - or even the best - option in others. And it often masks symptoms, rather than addressing the root cause.

Having been trained in a firmly western approach, I am still a work in progress towards a truly holistic path. Come with me on the journey! 😊

When Miss 6 gets a bit too excited to try the new Lickimat and puts it out with the labradors unsupervised!!!

Licking and chewing are great ways to encourage calm in your pup. Also pictured is a 'Dogwood Stick', which I highly recommend for avid chewers - and is safe to be used unsupervised! 😂

Luckily I rescued the Lickimat in time and it can still be used for mat-training our pup Pickles. Mat training is another way to encourage a calm, less reactive brain, by actively teaching pups to relax and setting up a tool (the mat) that can help to trigger calm if they get over-excited or scared. The Lickimat can help to encourage quiet time on the mat as we embed the habit of relaxation - wish me luck with an extremely busy labrador pup! 😆

Behaviour

Did you know that the most common reason given for premature euthanasia of dogs is behavioural problems? To me, this is a huge welfare problem - for dogs and their humans.

Many behaviour problems are actually 'normal' behaviours for dogs that we as humans find unacceptable - in which case training can help. (Ensuring that only positive reinforcement training is used!)

However, sometimes there are more serious underlying mental health problems, such as anxiety, which require medical intervention. It is important to correctly diagnose the problem to give your dog the best chance at a happy healthy life.

I offer behavioural consultations to help you pin-point exactly what the problem is and create the best plan to ensure you and your dog can live happily together. Message, comment or call me on 0455 613 683 if you would like an appointment!
