First video! So Reactive Dog Training done well shouldn't be exciting! If it's exciting & stressful then it's not being conducted particularly well.
This is us starting at an appropriate Distance for this dog, the learning team is not likely to react in a way that would be counter productive, such as becoming overly excited / stressed from arousal that would hinder the learning process & parts of the cognitive brain we want to engage & strengthen !

North Hobart Vet hospital Ollie
We had another wonderful visit at North Hobart vet on Thursday; thanks to the team members/nurses who were more than happy to help by throwing treats for Ollie!β€β€ Ollie is frightened of unknown people and can be nervous at the vets.
Helpful tips for fearful dogs below!
Don't try to food lure the dog closer to what they think is scary; it will likely create conflict within the dog: Gosh I want treat but need to go near the scary! You will see scared dogs stretching out to grab the treat and then they dart away or they look up and freak out about how close thet are.
No direct eye balling the dog π it's scary!
Never offer the (hand) outstretched hand for dogs to sniff, also super scary!! dogs can smell you just fine (dogs noses are amazing) if they wanted too they'd move closer to sniff you!
Never assume you can pet or approach any dog you see without checking with their person first; and with the dog of course! It's often best to stand to side talk calmly and warmly, let them approach sniff you and drop some treats, crouch down etc.
Lastly always seek the help of a postive dog trainer if your dog is showing fears, we are here to help! ππβ€β€
