Sad times for Australia

The death toll from the NSW South Coast bushfires has grown to at least seven people, and the official count for lost homes has reached 176 and is certain to rise.

Our thoughts are with the NT RFS deployment team heading down to the fires today. God speed and stay safe!

One of our volunteer team fly today and another maybe flying in another week or so.

01/01/2020

We received this photo from my sister in law from Dunedin, New Zealand which we have marked with a red dot to show you the magnitude of distance the smoke from the fires has covered!

Today my son all of the age of 3, wanted to build the new ducks (a burdekin pair) a new home for the eggs and baby duckies, his words. So that is what we did! Have you ever thought of having a water station on your property for wildlife? Doesn't matter if you live rural or in town, you can still build one! If you need some help or a point in the right direction feel free to ask!

Fire and Rescue NSW

Our thoughts and prays are with all the fire fighters and all the people affected by this disaster down in QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and WA.
The sheer furosity of these violent fires has been described as Armaggedon.

May 2020 bring rain to our lands, to extinguish the fires and green the pastures for all affected by drought.

The crew from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 509 Wyoming recorded this video showing the moment their truck was overrun by the bushfire burning South of Nowra at 3pm today. The crew was forced to shelter in their truck as the fire front passed through. The crew are okay.

“I love a Sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains. But I’ve gotta tell ya mate, I like it better when it rains. The countryside is dying and there’s just no end in site, and just to rub salt in the wounds, the bush has caught alight.
The landscape is on fire from Brisbane to the Gong
And everybody’s asking “where the hell did we go wrong?
But we can get through this one if we help each other out, take care of your neighbour , that’s what Aussies are about.
The rain is going to fall again , the good times will return. But living in Australia means at times it’s going to burn.
So if you need a helping hand, just give a mate a call. We’re all hear to help you out and catch you when you fall.
The RFS, the SES, the firey’s, and police, all put their lives upon the line to help to keep the peace.
So hats off to these hero’s and thanks for all you do
And I hope when this is over we can make it up to you!” - Troy Gerdes.

I cried and I cried, this video shows the around the clock work the team at the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie are doing and it shows us why donations are so vital!

We went behind the scenes with the incredible team at the Koala Hospital Port Macquarie.

They've been working around the clock to help these koalas left with painful burns after the bushfires.

If you live in the Darwin region, I am sure you have seen and heard about the current animal welfare situation which unfolded yesterday regarding the malnourished horses in Marrakai.

We have been in contact with Animal Welfare in regards to these horses, I have also spoken personally with the previous owner (as I personally know her) and told her we are doing our best to work with Welfare and the current owner to come to resolution.

The rehabilitation this horse... actually his name is Oaker, is going to be a mammoth task over a long period!

Here is a few helpful hints about what to do if you see anything like this:

- report it to your local government animal welfare division.

- report it to your local RSPCA branch, or other animal rescuers in your area.

- report it to your local police authorities.

- DO NOT attempt to feed the horse, if you do only very very small portions, there bodies are not used to it.

It is very important to always remember there are 2 sides to every story, and it's best to hear both sides then make judgement.

We will keep you all updated!

With most parts of the territory being lashed by severe thunderstorms lately, it provides us a friendly reminder of what our weather is like here... unpredictable!

Have you thought about the safety of yourself, your families and your animals during a severe storm or cyclone, and what about the wildlife who helps them after a major event like this? That is where our wildlife rescues, sanctuaries and volunteers here in the NT step in to help but...

Who do you call if you find an injured animal?

Good morning everyone, hope you all enjoying your wonderful Saturday morning!

We would like to introduce Effy! This bad girl is going to be stripped down and refurbished into the very first of her kind here in the NT.... a FIRST RESPONDER UNIT for animals alike!

This is an idea I have been tinkering with for sometime, I mean a few years now... Effy will be deck out with veterinary equipment and medical supplies, this will enable us to take immediate action before, during and after a natural disaster has occured for example cyclone, flood, bushfires etc.

Thank you all for your support, here is to a bigger and brighter future for the care and rehabilitation for animals not only here in the NT but all Australia!

12/12/2019

We have been abit quiet lately and we do apologies BUT we've got big news... STAY TUNED!

09/12/2019

With a beauty of a storm forming right now you may want to think about the aftermath, a large number of the NT's wildlife nest in trees and ferocious storms like can bring these trees down at the least, after the storm has passed you may want to do a quick check around your properties. If you do find injured wildlife call Darwin Wildlife Sanctuary on 0473992581, they will be happy to help!

Batzilla the Bat

Batzilla the Bat

With orphan season almost upon us, it is really important to know what a baby flying-fox sounds like just in case you happen to hear this little voice trilling in one of your trees or on over head power lines.
Mother bats are commonly electrocuted on over head power lines as they stretch their wings to take off and this create a circuit when two lines are touched.
Although this results in the death of the mother, 99% of under wing babies survive unscathed and if called in, we can rescue them and hand raise them.
Orphans are also created through dog attacks, car hits, barbed wire fencing, fruit tree netting and sometimes they are found alone for no apparent reason.
Please never touch any bats but please investigate any persistent call in case it is a baby bat alone and in need of help.
Any flying-fox by itself through the day is in trouble.
Don’t touch but please call 0488 228 134 for Brisbane and surrounding districts or phone the nearest wildlife rescue organisation in your area.

NSW fires LIVE updates: Bushfire emergencies on Sydney's outskirts amid severe fire danger

This was a situation faced by several firies recently. Please I urged every one to click the link and watch the video. This shows how furious and destructive bush fire are. This gave me goosebumps just thinking not only are ours but also international firefighters facing this but so are residents and animals alike. Please share this amongst your family and friends, be aware of the environment we live in. What we all do is so vital at this moment in Australia's history, although we may get tired we push through day and night.

Firefighters fear many more homes will come under threat from multiple bushfires burning under "severe" fire danger conditions on Thursday.
