Teaching our dogs to listen when highly aroused is a skill our dogs can learn. (I use the word excitement in this video instead of arousal to remove jargon for my clients)
Structured play builds a strong bond with your dog, tires them mentally, and builds a solid foundation for some core commands like ‘drop it’ (out)
Stay tuned for more videos on how to teach a ‘drop it’ command.
Go play tug with your dog ☺️
A bit of a fun one because I can.
Many people choose a dog breed that doesn’t match the energy needs of their household, but within those breeds comes differences too. Buckley and Frank are the same breed, 6 months difference in age, yet totally different personalities. Both can be well trained, both require their needs to be met, and both can listen and learn.
Did you get the right breed for you?
Could you see the difference in these dogs?
Impulse control, does your dog have it? Did you know it’s something that needs to be practiced?
Say you drop something poisonous on the floor, or you accidentally leave the front door open, a lack of impulse control could get your dog seriously injured. Try these small changes and see what a difference you see!

Cocker spaniels can be hard work, they’re energetic, confident and at times pushy. But I love that about them.
Finding ways to give them a job, an outlet for their drive and teaching them how to settle can be constant work. But putting in the hard yards will always be worth it!
I can’t wait to see these two shine!
Play with your dog. You’ll find they’re less destructive and show less behaviours you don’t like as they have an outlet for their needs.

Dogs understand physical touch and movement more than they understand our words. Imagine if someone spoke to you in a language you didn’t understand, you’d need gestures and spatial pressure to help guide you.
This is a fool proof way to help all dogs understand the rules of the door, and that is, you don’t go through without a break command. It can literally save their life, there’s not always someone at the door to say ‘sit’

Jamie from @thedailydogtrainer_ and I got together today to chat everything dog. One thing that came up was recall.
A few tips from us
- Teach your dog their name, say their name and throw a treat, repeat, repeat, repeat. You want their name to be a reward they snap back to you for.
- Practice at home from a short distance, we’re talking a few metres, build up distance gradually
- When you’re out and about, say your command once and reel them in with a long line, this guarantees they can’t ignore you.
- Get your reps and and practice.

Many people think of positive reinforcement as simply giving your dog a treat. Well they’ve actually trained us very well to get what they want. What do you think?
Many people deal with Seperation anxiety in their dogs. But unfortunately we’re setting them up to fail in many ways. As much as giving this kind of love and affection to humans can be seen as normal. You can clearly see here the kind of expectation it gives dogs. A happy dog is in fact a calm dog. The same goes when arriving back from work, try waiting 5 mins once you’re home to acknowledging your dogs, wait until they lie down and forget about you to then go over and reward that calm behaviour with some love.

Ditch the bowl and hand feed your dog while training. Buckley is 2 years old and has been fed from her bowl less than 5 times in her entire life. All it takes is 5 mins. If your tight on time, try scattering the food over grass or a snuffle mat. Using their nose also tires them out.
Let me know what changes you see from trying it!

People often assume adult dogs are just naturally good with weird objects humans are used to. Some people even chase their dog with vacuum cleaners for a joke 🫣 Start them young and reward calm behaviour, always!
Socialisation is a word that means different things to humans and dogs. While humans see socialisation as a way to catch up with friends or going to social gatherings, for dogs it’s all about exposure and desensitisation to all things. Do you want your 50kg adult dog to bound up to all people and dogs it sees on a walk? Start practicing exposure and desensitisation asap!
If you’d like to have a private 1:1 before you get a puppy or while they’re still young; reach out by DM or email, I’d love to help!

If you’re anything like me, before you had a dog you’d look at other people peacefully walking their dogs and think. How hard could it be? I’d assume dogs just naturally walked on lead well.
Oh what a dreamland I was in.
Many dogs now have some form of leash reactivity, barking at other dogs as they pass, pulling to get to people on the sidewalk, lunging at other dogs through fences. It’s more common than you’d think.
In one session with Donut we spoke about the power of a loose lead walk, door manners, eye contact and introduced him to a slip lead
Look at that difference.
I know donut and his owners now have many peaceful walks ahead.

Do you know what your dog instinctually wants to do? Spaniels love to sniff, Collies love to chase, Terriers love to dig, find your dogs natural instinct and harness it in a controlled environment and you’ll have one happy pooch!
