Read the descriptions please. EXTRAS - there are ALWAYS extras as the box belongs to members so your Hubster will divvy extras when available. Your Hubster will put extras in your box. If short due to an item being larger they will find something else you have ordered to give extras to make up.. We are not a retail outlet. Box Divvy is a coop. You will get great value. ONE COMMUNITY KINDNESS BOX given to a family in need. This is part of the Social Enterprise experience by being part of the Hub. If there are lots of extras that week the Hubster will create one small Kindness Box. NOT WANT AN ORDER? Suspend BEFORE Order Creation. There are no contracts, you can cancel your membership in your Dashboard see LEAVE HUB. If you have an order that week you must complete that order first. WANT EXACTLY 1 tomato 2 oranges? Then Box Divvy is not for you. This is a coop and things are in handfuls NOT exact items. You need to be flexible but you'll always get good value. We are a group of community minded people wanting to change the food system. Reduce packaging and pay our farmers fairly. By reducing our carbon footprint by 90% this means we buy in bulk as a group and then share it. We need to be a bit flexible. You will know roughly what you will get but you can’t get exactly. We have a Packing Guide but the numbers will change as produce is smaller or larger. Mostly you will get extras overall. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT I SPEND? EASY. You will pay the STARTING ORDER PLUS if you join in SPLITS or ADD Groceries. At the bottom of MY ORDER you will see the MAX you will pay if all your SPLITS get over the line, any groceries you’ve ordered plus Starting Order . If this amount pending is too much you can reduce the SPLITS or Groceries you joined BEFORE CUTOFF. PACKAGING
Much of the produce comes loose so do provide your Hubster with a NAME LABELLED BAG: ALSO - calico/wash nets to put handfuls in (do not expect your Hubster to provide paper bags please): Bring in your old icecream containers for the Hub to put soft stuff in. If you get an item in plastic recycle it in your soft plastic bin. We don't interrupt the packing from farmer to you so manage this please. Farmers are trying to work out how to transport produce and it can’t always be plastic free - for the moment. The Sugar Cane bags are not strong, don't last and definitely not airtight. Cardboard and paper fall apart. New technology is being worked on. So? Join our group to make a difference. You have the power to do so. Cut your food bill significantly.

I wondered what my weekly shop would cost at Woolies. DID NOT EXPECT THIS!

Box Divvy $25.69
Woolworths $62.99

It was just a small shop as I have plenty of fresh food leftover from last week.

*Prices taken from Woolworths Android App 5/9/24

This also doesn't take into account all the extras you get through Box Divvy!

The herb box with the fresh herbs from Box Divvy.

The bakery box....mmmm...Shepherd's Artisan Bakehouse.

The pantry box with the new Lolli's Artisan Soup mixes.

And now....the soap box. 🍀

I'm talking about the smells......

Today our Hub ordered the Clover Fields soaps and the scents were so amazing.

Members orders the Goatsmilk and Vitamin E, Boronia and Aloe Vera and the Charcoal Organic Detox.

I love the packaging (I know what you're thinking....here she goes again), but I really do 😊. 🍀

~ Afghan bread update ~

We spoke with Asad from Kabul Restaurant + Bakery (Kabul Star Bakery), and he sounded tired: the second baker he recently took on is not working out, and he is struggling to keep up with orders.

So, we made the decision to split the order between Kabul Star and The Afghan Traditional Bakery in Auburn Rd.
The ingredients vary slightly: The Afghan Traditional Bakery uses wheat flour, wholemeal flour (50%), folate, thiamine, iodised salt, yeast, baking soda, Ceresoft, water.

You can easily tell the difference by the printing on the bag: Kabul Star uses green printing, and the Afghan Traditional Bakery is using blue printing.
And, as we have received some today, Afghan Traditional Bakery flatbreads are round rather than the 'surfboards' we have been getting from Kabul Star!

**Update - we have been told that Afghan Traditional Bakery should be supplying 'surfboards' rather than rounds. So the bread should look the same regardless of which bakery it comes from.

You may or may not have a preference, but either way members and Hubsters cannot specify which of the 2 bakery's products they’ll receive. It’s a random thing.

NEW NEW NEW 🍊🍐

CARA CARA ORANGES 🍊
No orange shortages here! We have Cara Cara oranges this week. Did you know cara cara oranges are an excellent source of the antioxidants vitamin A and C and a good source of folate. They also contain a powerful antioxidant know as lycopene, which helps give them their gorgeous hue.

BEURE BOSC PEARS 🍐
All good things come in pears - Beure Bosc Pears to be exact. Besides their delicious flavor, these pears are also very nutritious. Their fiber content promotes digestive health and blood sugar regulation, and the antioxidants in their skin can counter chronic inflammation linked with a variety of chronic diseases.

Both are now in marketplace! Grab some in your next order 😉

Wondering how Box Divvy works? 🤔
Easy!

Take this Leek “split” on photo below for example 👀👇🏼

The group aka Hub order had just opened (and we have another 2 full days for the rest of the Hub Members to order until the platform closes)
I’ve added 1 Leek to my order, 2 other members have also, so the group (55 members in our Hub) need to buy another minimum 3 for the Leeks to reach my garage on Tuesday morning/packing/collecting day.

The Celery split below made it, and it’s fine to add more to it - we just needed 3 bunches minimum, and out of 55 members we get that 3 minimum per Hub order per week.

Some splits are bigger (apples) some are smaller (lettuce) but as a Hubster I am always here to help & coach the splits that need a little push before the platform closes so you get a maximum of variety.
This is how we all save some dough & getting farm-to-fork produce.
We work together, build an awesome sense of community, reduce our food miles & carbon footprint, and support Aussie farmers by paying them what’s fair: over twice what supermarkets offer them.

No joining fee, pause or bail whenever, people absolutely love getting their produce this way so they come back to support our small business every week: the quality is by far better that supermarkets, the produce lasts much longer, it is better value, comes in a box that you collect from a friendly neighbour - what’s not to love?

To customise your box this weekend & collect Tuesday PM:

🍎125 different seasonal fruit & veg on offer
🍞55 bakery items
🍯342 pantry items (at 10% off this week)
🍳Free range eggs
🦞214 chilled items incl. Meat, Seafood, deli meats & dips, dairy (chilled items are $10 delivery or free home delivery when only $50 min. spend on chilled)

Farmers’ Recovery Fund 💰

Last week’s heavy rain on farms along the Nepean-Hawkesbury catchment led Box Divvy to set up a Farmers’ Recovery Fund which will provide fast, interest-free loans to farmers who have been hit by extreme weather or other disasters, repayable over a 3-year period.

Why loans and not donations?

💌 Farmers don’t want hand-outs: they are a proud and stoic bunch and don’t want charity – but some quick support will get them back on their feet.

💌 Some losses can be recovered from insurance, but this can take several months – so they have a need for speed. The sooner they can clean up, the faster they’ll be back in business. The insurance pay-out can help repay the loan.

💌 Loans rather than donations will make the fund self-sustaining over time so it can be used many times over to help farmers get back on their feet.

💌 A loan will encourage them to keep farming.

How will it work exactly?

Donations will go into the fund that lends money to the growers. The money paid back will then go back into the fund to lend to other growers (as these weather events will continue to pop up). So the same money can then be lent to multiple farmers over time. This will be an ongoing project for the foreseeable future.

We will provide a monthly summary report of the fund’s incoming and outgoing money.

Will you be joining me in helping our farmers to get back on their feet? If so, it's already on our splits screen, just choose the units as dollars to donate.

Thank you in advance for having a heart and thoughts for our devastated farmers. Let them know we are in this together ❤️
