END OF THIS KITTEN SEASON ..... WELL, NOT QUITE!!

Usually this time of the year is the "kitten off-season", when I have no little kittens around and I catch up with all sorts of related and personal stuff including my annual Big Cattery Clean-Up, when every single item and surface is scrubbed and disinfected, safe for my coming babies (who will start to be born late September). That Clean-Up will be going ahead over the next couple of weeks, and if anyone would like to be involved we would love to hear from you and be very grateful for any help.

This year, "Kitten Off-Season" is very different from usual! I still have too many lovely kittens to find good homes for! The kittens usually leave after they have been sterilised and recovered, at about 3 months old or 1-2 weeks more, and my kittens which are still available are now 4 and 5 months old! So very unusual!!

The main reason I still have some kittens available is that the past year or two has been an extremely tough period for many people due to the widespread financial downturn and the crazy soaring prices for rental or purchase of a home. Some people are directly and extremely seriously affected, we have all heard of many calamities including much homelessness, and other people are very nervous and cautious about the coming years. Which means that for a large number of people there is less money available to commit to "discretionary items" .... which includes a new pet! Judging by the enquiries I receive there are still plenty of people who would love to have a new kitten, but the high % who withdraw after learning the costs involved reflects this new unfortunate financial nervousness or inability. It is a very sad and even scary situation for so many people currently.

Correctly cared for purebred pets including kittens are not cheap, especially when the breeder ensures through expensive testing that their kittens or puppies are prevented from having many dire but often preventable infectious and genetic diseases/conditions. For illustration, unusually my kittens come with a written guarantee that they will be free of nasty and usually deadly (and expensive) feline leukaemia and feline AIDS when they leave me also free for life of every genetic disease/condition for which relevant DNA tests are available at the time of conception of those kittens. This is way beyond the protection that only even correct vaccination gives, and even many breeders give, and can save an owner considerable vet bills and even more importantly considerable heartache in later years.

So, I have these beautiful, eye-catching, healthy, happy, affectionate kittens in each of my 3 breeds and in a variety of colours and patterns who are still looking for a home and family to love them and be their forever new home and for them to love back in return. Recent photos of them are on this post. Due to this difficult situation for many people I have discounted the kittens considerably, as well as doing extra vet work e.g. the final kitten vaccinations, so no more basic costs like that will arise for the new owners for a year! I am now discounting these kittens by 20-40% depending on their ages, PLUS you save another $140-150 for the pre-paid 3rd vaccination, PLUS I am definitely open to considering reasonable offers!

These babies have received affection and socialisation throughout so at these ages still settle extremely well into their new homes (e.g. have a look at the last couple of Reviews on this page), are still affectionate with new people and are still crazy playful. .... they are still kittens not cats! And frankly, with that bit of extra size and maturity, they are usually better than a younger kitten to settle with an already-present other cat or dog or other pet, also are better and safer for very young children or even older people too.

So if interested in getting a new pet, NOW is the time to consider it. You would never get the same quality any cheaper than now! The total savings from usual price (depending on age) would come to about $650 to even $1150!!! And you might even 'twist my arm' a bit to make savings a bit morešŸ˜ƒ

With certain precautions to protect the health of my cats and kittens, if even a bit interested or perhaps looking ahead to consider a kitten later, you are very welcome to visit these kittens and meet, hold and play with them.

Regardless, I hope you enjoy the photos of my kittens.šŸ„°

TO SEE WHICH KITTENS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE PLEASE SEE INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS. THERE ARE ALSO A FEW MORE BLUE AND BLUE BICOLOUR SIBLINGS THAN SHOWN HERE, MY YOUNGEST STILL AVAILABLE.

HOW MUCH DOES CARE OF YOUR CAT COST?

We all know that all prices on everything seem to be escalating upwards recently, and vet care for your pet cat or kitten or dog is no exception.

The best article I have seen recently gives a good idea of the basic costs of care including such things as food, bed, toys, vet consultation fees and vaccinations etc as well as details of a wide range of other vet procedures and treatments across Australia. It is as recent as January this year and is found at
https://www.forbes.com/advisor/au/pet-insurance/vet-fees/

It also discusses in some detail insurance for your cat or dog, and gives reviews of quite a few companies. I strongly believe that GOOD insurance is a very worthwhile practice as vet costs can go over $20 000 for some conditions or accidents, and who can just pay out that much? What an unwelcome attack of "bill shock"! Specifically, I strongly believe that everyone should insure their kitten or puppy for at least the first year after getting him/her, as that is when they will suffer most illnesses due to their less-developed immune system and most accidents due to their inquisitive and playful inclinations allied with their immatiurity of 'common sense'. Compare this to our own human babies and toddlers! One of my kittens last year had only been in her new home for one week when she just fell off a bookshelf and the resultant treatment cost almost $10 000! Accidents like this can so easily happen with our lovely little explorers.

I give to every new owner of one of my kittens 30 days of free vet insurance with what I believe is one of the best probably the very best pet insurance company practicing in Australia, Trupanion Pet Insurance. Below is a very recent review done of Trupanion which is attached to the wider article above, written by a well-respected financial advisor company

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/au/pet-insurance/trupanion-pet-insurance-review/

I hope that this information does not scare you away from getting a kitten (or puppy) but please do seriously consider getting pet insurance, for your cat's sake and your own.

THE END OF THE KITTEN SEASON IS COMING UP FAST!

The end of the kitten season is approaching very soon, with the last kittens at or soon approaching the stage to leave for their new homes. This timing is set by Nature, not breeders. Nature works it so that queens cease to come on heat and get pregnant during months when their babies would be born in the cold winter, thus risking their vulnerable tiny baby kittens would die from the cold. Isn't Nature clever! So in Australia the last kittens of a season are usually ready to leave for their permanent homes by about late June to mid-July, and the next season kittens will not start to be born till about late September to early October. Given that kittens are usually about 12-13 weeks old before they leave for their new homes, that means that once the current kittens have left then the new season kittens would not be available till about early/mid December.

Still available are kittens of each of my three breeds of Scottish Fold, British Shorthair and Scottish Shorthair. There is quite a variety of colours and patterns still available, though some have only one of each still available now. The most unusual or eye-catching now are unusual and pretty blue smoke tabby, cute startling black tortie Folds, crisp blue bicolour, elegant chocolate and lilac point pattern, and a couple of gorgeous solid lilac and blue youngsters. A few are ready to leave now, others will be sterilised and ready to leave over the next 2-3 weeks.

All normal vet-type preparations are included i.e. sterilisation, microchip, appropriate vaccinations and treatments for external and internal parasites ("fleas and worms"). In addition, unusually my kittens also come with a written guarantee that through testing they are clear of nasty and usually deadly feline leukaemia and feline AIDS when they leave, and of every relevant genetic disease for which DNA tests are available at time of conception. Think of the savings in vet costs and especially distress and heartbreak that this could save you!

With certain precautions to protect the health of my cats and kittens, you are welcome to visit and meet them and see for yourself what they are like, how they are looked after, to touch & cuddle & play with them, even see different colours and patterns "in the flesh" that you may have not seen before and fall in love with.

YOUNG BABIES READY TO LEAVE NOW AND SOON!

I have quite a few babies either just been sterilised and ready to leave or will be soon. They are in many colours, in all 3 breeds (Scottish Fold and British and Scottish Shorthair), boys and girls. Some of them have been ordered, and their new families are eagerly waiting for them to soon be with their new families.

I have attached a few photos of just some of these babies still available, just to give you an idea.

AT LAST! I AM BACK PROPERLY! I THINK???

I have had such an awful saga with NBN for past 2 years, then finally my new computer, with false re-starts here, but this time I think I at last have reliable continuing servicešŸ„¹šŸ˜ƒ

In the meantime I have been so sad not to be able to show you all many gorgeous kittens I have had this season, and photos to watch them growing up into lively lovely little fluffballs.

Currently I have available quite a few furry friends covering a real age range, and plan to make at least 2 posts over next couple of days showing available cattens, adults and babies.

'CATTENS'.

Three "cattens" (part kitten/part cat), now 5-5.5 months old. They are each smoochy, welcoming to strangers, playful and with all juvenile vet work done son are ready to leave me.

1. Quint, a vibrantly-coloured red/orange/ginger Scottish Shorthair boy.
GONE TO NEW HOME.

2. Queenie, Quint's sister, an unusual and striking black tortie Scottish Fold girl. Her main colour is black, with a smattering of bright orange areas spattered through her coat.
AVAILABLE.

3. Sean, a very smoochy lilacpoint Scottish Shorthair boy.
AVAILABLE.

These 3 'cattens' are all ridiculously discounted now to only half price or even less, just offer!! .... as they really need their great new homes with people they can really bond with and keep their lovely natures. A bonus for some people is that they are still young and playful and will adapt easily but got past that skitty but fragile and underfoot little kitten stage. Their cost each barely covers the direct vet costs I have alread paid for them, the kittens themselves are tantamount to FREE. You would extremely rarely ever be able to get a purebred kitten/cat anywhere near as cheap as this. They are ready to go NOW.

RETIRED ADULTS.

There are 3 of these too, all female.

1. Quartz, a blue British Shorthair girl who is a venerable older lady and a loved and respected loving kitten producer and carer, now 8 years old. Wow, she's done well! She loves quietly being around and near people, she smooches your legs and lies near you. She would be a good companion for a more mature person or couple, though she does cope well with younger people too. Because of her age, she is substantially cheaper than the other 2 girls here.
GONE TO NEW HOME.

2. Chantilly, an unusual and delightfully pale female British Shorthair. Her coat is all white from the skin out, with warm cream tips on each hair. This is close to the palest you could get other than white. Chantilly is only 2.5 years old, and is being moved on solely because I have kept too many cats in the cream colouring and need to reduce my overall number a little.
ON HOLD.

3. Pikelet, whose identical twin sister Omelette I will be keeping. This was a hard one to decide! Pikelet is a cream bicolour Scottish Fold female, just turned 2 years old. The bicolour pattern is very striking, and the cream colour is soft but warm. Again, the only reason she is going is to bring my cat numbers down a bit. But I will miss having my pair of identical twin sistersšŸ˜„
GONE TO NEW HOME.

Normally retired adults would sell for about 50-60% the cost of an equivalent kitten, depending on age. Some people prefer an adult because their personality is already pretty apparent also they are even easier and safer to have around than a catten. A very good choice for an older person or couple too.

These cats are of course sterilised, microchipped and vaccinated appropriately etc, so are also ready to leave NOW. Open to consider $ offers.

MY BABIES.

Ah, they are so cute, and so wonderful to watch them develop from litte wriggling feeding bundles into cute fluffballs with their own personalities!

I have many kittens here ready to leave from immediately and till the end of June or early July, though quite a few of them have already been reserved. There is quite a variety still available for reservation, within the 3 breeds I can produce. They include blue, blue tortie, blue bicolour, bluepoint, blue silver tabby, black tortie, lilac, lilac point, chocolate point and cream bicolour. There were few solid chocolate or cream, and those were mainly reserved before birth.

The ones already des*xed, not reserved and available now are one each of lilac, blue, black tortie, chocolate point and cream bicolour.

ATTACHED PHOTOS.

I will post now photos of the'cattens' and female adults which are available, and in the next couple of days photos of many of the kittens. Watch for that post, you will enjoy these beautiful babiesšŸ˜

A MUM WITH HER 5 BRAND NEW BABIES.

It is a couple of minutes short of 3AM and this blue Scottish Fold queen named Sapphire has just finished having her litter of 5 new babies .... 2 blue, 2 blue bicolour and 1 blue tortie. The final baby, a blue tortie girl tucked in front of her mother's back leg here, was born about 10 minutes ago. Here they have all just settled down peacefully at last, babies calmly suckling milk for the first time, a couple finished and gone to sleep, Mum now calm and at rest, all is peace.

After each kitten is born, if all goes well, I dry him/her off a bit, check he is breathing OK and "swing" him if not (to get any inhaled liquid out of the lungs), dip the open end of the umbilical cord in antiseptic to prevent infection, check the s*x and weigh him then tuck him back close with Mum. Sometimes there is more to do than that e.g. one may be too cold so goes in a warming box and has glucose rubbed on his gums to provide energy as it absorbs best and fastest through the gums/ mucous membranes. Occasionally there can be a serious difficulty in the actual birthing, for example the 3rd baby in this litter tonight (the blue bicolour boy underneath in the middle) was larger than usual also presented with his front legs beside the head, so got stuck very tight and Mum could not expell him. I could not have reached an emergency vet in time so I released him myself, with the aid of vaseline and a finger tucked in beside his head to try to move the legs back out of the way then behind his jammed head and wrapped round it to ease it out. I have only had to do this a few times, so it is very scary, however a massive flood of relief and joy when the baby is released, the amniotic sac is open and he has breathed his first breath. But even then I had to support him as his Mum was a bit disturbed (no wonder!) and walked around, kitten still suspended as the placenta had not yet come out, and hanging like that can easily cause an umbilical hernia. If the blocked kitten could not have been released, he would have died and the other two waiting behind him too.

My queens like me to be with them through the birth, and I love it too, and I was especially glad I was awake late tonight and could stay with her thoughout or we would have had a calamity. But inbetween each birth and most of the actual time even during each birth she was gazing into my eyes, purring and rubbing her head into my hand. Such magnificent warm sharing and trust is unbelievably wonderful and heartwarming, and sometimes even a few smiling tears of relief like tonight.

In a few days they will start to be able to hear, and almost precisely on the 10th day their eyes will start to open and they will be able to see. A few days after that they will start to squirm around more and then try get their legs up to walk .... and then they are mobile and the real fun and trouble begins!

Sapphire's litter tonight is my second last litter of kittens to born this season. In a few days or so the last litter this season will be born, and her babies will be chocolate or lilac, either solid or colourpoint pattern. After that, no more births till about mid-October.

LAST CHANCE FOR DISCOUNTED KITTENS DELAYED BY NBN HASSLE!!

Finally catching up now that the interminable nasty irresponsible NBN internet problems have been resolved! I hope that the following bit-older-than-usual kittens find their deserved wonderful permanent homes over this Easter long weekend, though they could be collected a few days later if someone is away enjoying this lovely weather for this 4-day break. They need their homes, and frankly I need the space for little younger growing up babies and Mums. These will be my last bunch of discounted kittens, so please contact me SOON if interested.

My British and Scottish Shorthair kittens usually cost $2500 and more rare and harder to make Scottish Folds are $2900. They usually leave at 12-13 weeks old, after sterilisation. These kittens also include free 1-2 extra vaccinations which you would normally have had to pay for at about $130 each, so that is more saving for you.

Reasonable offers will be considered.

Photos of the kittens are in the same order as they are listed here.

MY 2 BLUE BICOLOUR RETIRED ADULT FEMALES HAVE GREAT NEW HOMES!!

On the previous post I mentioned that I had 2 adults looking for new homes. See their photos on that post, retired veteran 8 y.o. Mum ISLAY on the 2nd photo, and 2 year old youngster MAEZIE in the first photo.

ISLAY is now 8, an age which most people would not consider acquiring a cat. But some people (especially older) realise that by this age they are not dangerous skitty little kitties nor as much work to look after as a kitten, also their personalities are already evident so you know what you get. Surprisingly there were actually more enquiries for this queen than for any of the young kittens! Today she left for her new home, with an utterly gorgeous and eminently suitable mature person referred to me by a lovely "proven"couple who have 2 of my cats which they have always looked after beautifully. Islay greeted this woman with calm confidence, curiosity and lots of leg smooching and even some trusting lap-sitting ... it was almost instant mutual approval, acceptance and ease. I hear she is already settling in calmly. Now, one day later, she has chosen her own sleeping place and is accepting and returning strokes and not a single grizzle or any crying in her first 24 hours there, which is marvellous considering what a very big and unsettling change for a cat this is, especially after so long in one home.

My beloved little MAEZIE has also gone, and boy do I feel the vacuum she has left! I actually cried when the decision was made by these 2 wonderful young people (who already have an adult cat from me a few years ago) and especially when she was put into their car to leave. I really bawled!!! She is SO sweet, friendly while quietly shy too, gentle, petite and lovingly welcoming, as well as so pretty, I fought hard against keeping her as another of my housecats ... but the bottom line is that people like these 2 can offer her a better life than I can with so many other cats and kittens around and taking my time and attention. So such happy news about both my girls ...... but sad time too.

I am so very happy about the homes my 2 beloved girls have gone to. Thank you!

In a few weeks or so I will have some other adult cats available, all female, mainly either retiring Mums or younger ones who just simply never succeed at or enjoy that role. A couple may be just because they are "spare", i.e. I am old enough that I reckon perhaps I should start to limit my cat numbers:-( They will be various colours perhaps including cream, cream bicolour, lilac, blue and blue tortie bicolour. At fair but good prices, the older ones being cheaper. If interested please email me at [email protected].

STERILISATION/DESEXING REBATES.

Because I could not have juvenile sterilisation/des*xing done early this kitten season I arranged that those people who bought a kitten then would get a rebate from me once they sent me a copy of their kitten's sterilisation certificate (so we could conform with the law). However NBN failures intruded, and I am still not receiving all my emails though it is a bit better now. And at least I can now post:-)

Would those eligible people who have had their kittens des*xed as required please email me a copy of that certificate and their bank details at [email protected] so I can forward their rebates.

For the relevant people who received a kitten earlier this season and have not yet done so, please remember that for the wellbeing of the kitten, female kittens should be sterilised by 4 months old and males by 5 months old, and to conform with the WA Cat Law it MUST be done (and the kitten registered with their Council) by 6 months old.

Rebates willl not be given by me to owners who do not have their kittens sterilised by 6 months old. And local Councils DO by law have access to kitten sales records.

All kittens now and in future will again be sterilised before departure as I have found a suitable and accessible vet clinic to do so.

Sorry to sound so stuffy, but this is the law also by our agreements of sale, also and primarily is for the wellbeing of the kittens.

CHEAPER OLDER KITTENS AND TWO ADULT CATS!!

My NBN has FINALLY been reconnected with FTTP but is still very slow and faulty, but at least is back on again after so very long thank goodness! In the meantime I have had kittens sitting around here just growing older because, me being unable to post, people did not know they were available! But this could mean a real opportunity to save some precious money for
someone who loves these friendly beautiful kittens but has to watch their budget.

Kittens usually leave their breeders when they are about 12-13 weeks old. The only other season I had a bunch of ā€œover-ageā€ kittens to sell was some years ago when I was on chemo for cancer! The current ā€œover-ageā€ kittens are only 2-6 weeks over that, and are listed below in decreasing order of age. They really need their own special homes and to become close with their new families ASAP, so I have discounted them up to 30% and will consider reasonable offers. Another $$ bonus is that all are already des*xed and microchipped, also will all have either one or two extra vaccinations included depending on their age, so that will also save you about $135 per extra vaccinationšŸ˜Š

I have other kittens here now, quite a few just coming up to ready to leave, and in all 3 breeds and a rainbow of colours and patterns ā€¦. but all at normal price and I will leave those for another post as these listed discounted kittens need attention and their own homes NOW.

All the kittens below are Scottish Shorthairs:
1. Blue tortie girl SOLD
2. Cream bicolour girl GONE TO CANBERRA
3. Cheeky affectionate red (orange/ginger) boy SOLD
4. Blue bicolour boy SOLD
5. Blue tortie bicolour girl
6. Lilac girl SOLD
7. Unusual cream point boy (almost all white). SOLD

I also have 2 adults available, already des*xed, microchipped and with current vaccination, selling cheap. Both are Scottish Folds, both are female, both are blue bicolour, a very affectionate one has just had her 2nd birthday and the other a leg-smooching retired matron after 7 successful years of being a great loving Mum. It is hard to let these 2 girls go! There will be a few more female adults available within some weeks.

I have basically included 1 photo of each cat then kitten mentioned, others could be available to an interested person. Also, with certain conditions to protect the health of my cats and kittens, someone interested is very welcome to visit (in Mundaring) and see, hold and play with them.

All these kittens and cats have passed every vet examination very well. All are guaranteed (through testing) to be free till they leave me of nasty and deadly feline leukaemia and feline AIDS, also guaranteed for life against every genetic disease and condition for which DNA tests were available at the time of conception. Think what vet bills and especially heartache this could save you down the track! They also all come with 30 days of excellent free vet insurance.

I do mean that I will consider reasonable offers, so feel free to be a bit audaciousšŸ˜Š

FURRELEDA

Iā€™v dedicated myself to breeding healthy lovely natured kittens, my research and dedication is never ending and have always had a passion for animals. I enjoy all aspects of caring for and improving the breeds I work with. I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and thrive on implementing the knowledge I have gained throughout my life by investing it in the health and well being of my cats and the kittens that I produce. For the last 20 years I have been well known for not only my Ragdolls, British Shorthairs and more recently my Scottish Folds but I am very well known as Australias' Rabbit Lady for many years. I ceased breeding rabbits in 2012 so I could concentrate my efforts on producing some new and exciting colours and patterns in the Brits and Folds program which I am thoroughly enjoying doing with a like minded breeder on the East Coast. At Furreleda Cattery, my philosophy differs to most breeders, but it is a formula I have adopted after many years of knowing what works for me, my cats and my clients. My clients always return and I absolutely love what I do.
