Is your puppy biting on everything it can get it’s razor teeth around? 🙈

1️⃣ Remove all forbidden items and replace with a plush toy (redirection)

2️⃣ Your puppy biting your finger is not cute! Don’t let them away with this as it will become a learned behaviour they will bring into adulthood

3️⃣ Feed your puppy out of a Kong so they are engaged biting the toy and being rewarded at same time

❌ Remember don’t set your puppy up for failure. Ensure there is no access to anything it could chew up and follow through on corrections!

❌ if your dog is pulling while on the lead walk DO NOT let it off. This will reinforce bad habits and behaviour.

✅ walk with a loose lead. Don't ask your dog to sit, COMMAND and ensure they give you eye contact so you can be confident that your dog is calm and actively listening before being let off the lead to explore.

Did you know? 🐾

Puppies begin teething at around 3 weeks and by approximately 6 weeks all of their teeth will have erupted. The incisors (at the front of the mouth) and the canine teeth (the fangs) erupt first, followed by the premolars. Dogs do not have any baby molars.

Here are 4 hacks to help you through your fur baby's teething period 💪🏽

Aggressive or Playful? 👀

Reading a dogs body language will help you not only in training but in every day life. You can avoid confrontations with dogs who seem aggressive, apprehensive or nervous etc because you have read the body language from a distance and can react accordingly. This will ensure you are confident for your dog to interact with other dogs that display the correct body language and keep your dog safe.

Notice that the dog in the video is wagging her tail, putting her front legs down on ground and bouncing around which shows excited/happy behaviour. Now you can make an educated approach towards the dog as you have read the body language and see it poses no threat.

RECALL - Off Leash Recall Training today with Peppa 🐾

Does your dog always run over to other people & dogs etc. and not return when you call them?

Dogs are very easily distracted by a number of things especially at a young age. Establishing a good recall is extremely important to keep your dog safe & under control.

In this video you can see Peppa is distracted by people in the distance. Noticing Peppa approach them I whistle for her to return to me. When Peppa returns, she sits, gives me eye contact and at this point I reward her with a treat. The more we do this, the more Peppa will associate returning to me as rewarding behaviour which we are trying to reinforce in every part of training. Positive reinforcement is the best way to train your canine companion 🦮

Peppa - 15 months old
Kobe - 14months old

When it’s comes to focus based training, the most important element is eye contact which most people fail to do or remember. Clear and obvious eye contact between you and your dog shows your dog is attentive and listening. Once you have achieved this the training becomes a lot easier.

Socialisation is a vital element in having a well balanced dog 💫

Socialising is best achieved when your dog is between 3/17 weeks old. Take your puppy to as many different environments, people, places smells etc as you possibly can. This in turn will make your dog as comfortable and as calm as possible in a number of situations. Making training easier and distractions less frequent.
