You will learn about positive reward training rather than those outdated approaches of yelling, yanking on check chains, water squirts, and other harmful actions that can spoil your dog's nature. We show you that your dog can learn and that you are your dog’s best teacher. You will be delighted to find that you can communicate with your dog and that your dog only wants to please you. We have baby

puppy classes, kindy puppy classes and dog classes. We can even help you with your dog's behavioural problems.

We all like something a little different at Christmas but please make sure that your dog doesn't need a trip to the Vet over the break because they ate something they shouldn't.

Keep your dog on the 'Nice' list by keeping an eye on what they eat this Christmas.

The last thing we want for Christmas is an emergency trip to the vet!!

While there is a temptation for a treat or two, just make sure its on the good side of the list (or the in moderation side).

To help reduce temptation, why not prepare some ready made treats/enrichment items ready to go.

For example frozen chews/vegies in ice blocks, banana and peanut butter on a Lickimat or even a Kong with their regular food frozen/fresh in it, treat balls with their dry food pre-filled.

**The list is by no means an exhaustive list, but highlights the main Christmas type foods

p.s. Sweets such as hard/soft lollies (especially those containing xylitol

Dog training is an unregulated industry & sadly, anyone can call themselves a "specialist", "behaviourist", or say they are "accredited". As an industry professional with 25 years experience, I'd like to help you negotiate the minefield so that you can choose a trainer that's right for you.

Yes, there are a lot of dog training courses & dog trainers using a variety of methods. Courses for dog trainers vary in quality & content. The most experienced, professional trainers working across all fields of animal training use methods based on scientific research & facts - methods that can be used safely for the trainer & for the animal.

Good education & experience takes time & money. Trainers who are at the top of their field are harder to find than the multitude of trainers who do a quick course, whip a fancy website & start a business. It's up to you to research trainers & decide what's right for you.

There are a lot of excellent trainers with Cert IV Level animal training qualifications attained through various organisations, ie TAFE, Delta Society, Animals on Course etc. These qualifications are Nationally Accredited in Australia & teach how to train using modern, science based methods.

Such courses are continually redesigned & improved to be delivered in line with industry standards & animal welfare recommendations by the Australian Veterinary Association, US Vet Assoc, RSPCA etc.

Other excellent options for learning:

💜 Susan Friedman Learning About Dogs (Competency Assessment Program)
💜 Karen Pryor Academy
💜 Companion Animal Sciences Institute
💜 International School of Canine Psychology & Behaviour
💜 The School of Canine Science
💜 Institute of Modern Dog Trainers UK & Aust
💜 Peaceable Paws Institute (Pat Miller USA)

Accredited or certified means a trainer belongs to an industry organisation such as Pet Professional Guild Australia, Delta Institute, Fear Free etc. A requirement of membership is that the member provides evidence regularly that they have upgraded their skills to current best practice. Professionals such as doctors, physios etc would need to do this as well.

Where does your dog trainer sit in th Pyramid?
I hope that has helped a little - choose wisely! ❤

Feel free to share! 😊
