We are a small breeder of Australian Terriers.
Scott and Myself Kylie have shown dogs for many years, I adore Australian Cattle Dogs but we wanted a small breed to live indoors with the children.. After fostering a bunch of rescues I wasn’t comfortable with temperaments.
I am a veterinary nurse and had first pick of the local rescues, But I was not comfortable.
I grew up with an Australian Silky terrier from the age of 12 .. He was a great dog and was dragged all about and dressed up by teen girls …in hindsight I would not trust him with younger children… Scott as a young teen was handed a red Aust Terrier. The dog was left at the petrol station where his father worked.. In the early 80s microchips were not thought of and the owner didn’t return.
Scott adored this little tough loyal smart little dog. Scott has some great memories of the fun they had together. How loyal and fearless this little dog was but like so many he was snake bitten..
I tried to purchase Scott a red Aussie terrier male as a gift 15 yrs after the death of his”Radar” and realised how few breeders there were I was so saddened that our wonderful National breed was in such dire straits… This was once the dog of the people .. Everyone once had an Aussie.
I contacted many breeders. As a Veterinary Nurse and an experienced Show person I would usually go to the top of the list ..
I soon found that this breed is so few that there simply is not he pups to go around.
I contacted Pat Conner and was offered my pick of a bitch,
I still remember heading the 2.5 hrs to see Pat and when I arrived sitting on the lawn covered in Aussie terrier Kisses … I was in heaven.
We purchased a Blue and Tan Bitch… Tinneetowns Temptress.. Nova.
We adored her… and as much as she was purchased as a pet I soon fell into showing her … Quickly she gained her Australian Champion status and we were thrilled….. We were bitten by the Aussie terrier Bug.
What we love about them.
*They are Very loyal and committed to their familys
*This breed is so smart and savvy. Very loyal to their family’s but not snappy or aggressive. Very easy to train This is why they have been used in stage and advertising work … A trait rare in smaller dogs.
*They are easy to groom, Just a good comb and slicker brush and they are done for pets. They are easy to brush out and grass seeds are not keen on these wire coats
*This is a breed that is so healthy. They surfaced as a “type” in one of the roughest toughest periods of Australian history… They lived because of their wits. Only the strongest survived.
They lived on rats at Port Arthur in Tasmania and were prised as rat and snake killers by our ancestors.. This mix of English terriers. These guys were the shunned accidents of the English Governors mixed pups of Cairn terriers, Dandie Dinamonts , West highland white terriers, Manchester terriers these plucky little mutts were soon developed into a type and were orinanally called the Tasmanian Rough Coat Terrier…
As the prisoners were pardoned and were granted parcels of land. They took these little terriers with them … They soon developed as a type. They were to be tough hardy dogs with a deep love and understanding of children. Their job was to protect the lady and the children of the house. To be a bed warmer. Rat and rabbit killer and baby sitter.
What better breed for Australia then one developed here..
We adore this breed..
Our dogs are shown. We are judged by our peers and our dogs have had some wonderful wins that confirm that they are to breed standard. “Type”
Our dogs are brought up in our home, Never have we had an Aussie shown aggression to a human but we have desexed and moved on some dogs with a huge Prey drive that is not compatible with a good pet dog.
Once removed from temptation they have settled into family life
We have had raving reviews from owners and we have many dogs doing advertising and stage plays because of their trainability and even “Temperments”. Our dogs are offered as junior handler dogs at shows and attend the “Dog lovers show” and are often used in training for vet nurses.
They are also lent out for grooming competitions.
Out Dogs Dna Scoring for testable disease is available to view.
All of our dogs are tested prior to breeding.
What we ask from you …
We ask that you really think about taking on one of these pups.
We ask that you educate yourself on desexing, feeding, training and grooming for the longevity of your new family member and why we have sold this pup on the following conditions.
A lot of time and energy has gone into producing this pup and we want the best for him or her.
We will have vaccinated this pup at 6 weeks. A second vaccine is due at 10 weeks and then 12 weeks …..then yearly. You are responsible for the vaccines needed from the time you pick them up.. All paperwork will be provided.
We ask that your pup be registered with your local council as soon as possible, Most local councils will have reduced rates for youngsters
This pup MUST be desexed by the age of 14 mth old. The reason we ask this is to reduce the incident of accidental mating’s. If you want to be involved in breeding … contact us … we will help you out as long as it is done to improve the standard... But this pup has been sold on limit papers that excludes breeding.. You will be required to sign a form saying that you understand the meaning of limit papers.
We ask that you educate yourself on why we ask for this pup to be left until 12 mths old before desexing. And we ask this pup is desexed once mature about 14 months to prevent accidental matings, Pyrometria Mammary cancers in girls and prostrate problems, testical cancer and wandering in males.
Please see the links below to papers linked to early age desexing..
In short. If this pup is desexed before the age of 12 months we will take no responsibility for Luxating Patellas or Anterior Cruciate ligament damage.
We also ask you to consider the parasite control that you use… it is a toxin… A poison
How toxic does a product need to be to be a residual poison to fleas for three months???? Imagine yourself … Imagine a residual insect poison in your body for three months.
Please also consider the food that you want to feed. .. Think of the food that they were developed on… which was scraps and rats and rabbits.
Aussies have lived on humans scraps. Plate scrapings and leftovers. And they did very well on it. No cooked bones.
Here at home we feed no canned dog food. We feed a small percentage of premium brand dog food.
We also feed raw chicken necks and frames an wing tips and hearts
Lots of lovely lamb, beautiful beef. Darling deer, Kangaroo. Perfect pork in small amounts. Raw meat has been the key food for canines for centuries… Healthy dogs come from this ..
If in a rush.. Canned tuna or a fryed egg or baked beans( try it avoid the sauce) are a great fast meal .
Processed pet foods are as bad as processed human foods… they are full of fillers and sugars. Low nutritional value. High price.
Imagine canned dog food as McDonalds… Of course they love it, its really no good. But its fast and cheap.
Sadly so many Aussies have contracted Diabetes.
They have a slow metabolism and and are easily overloaded
Diabeties is an overload of sugars. The pancreases needs to produce insulin to remove these sugars
Sometimes the pancreas gets overloaded and breaks down It can no longer produce the insulin to disperse the sugars
Keep aussies on a lean diet of mainly fresh raw foods.
Keep them slim, active and on a healthy basic fresh diet.
Grooming: Aussies are a breed that is usually hand stripped or plucked. This technique is painless and removes the soft fuzzy coat by toughening the folicule … like shaving your legs replaces soft fuzz with a hard hair. It Is a different color and texture.
Run a steel comb through your Aussies coat weekly and invest in a Mars Coat king Course for maintence .
If left fuzzy terrier coats may become greasy and attract bacteria or yeast.
Clipping this coat will make it go soft .
Training: Aussies are smart… Training is rarely a problem and if there ever is a problem it is because the dog has trained the human just too well. Be tough. When we got our first Aussie we were told to let her know she has crossed a line and smack her bum hard, so it smarts your hand.
We have had wonderfully behaved dogs. Enforce strict boundries and be sure to be the alpha. Be sure to call us if you have any problems..
Remember that Aussies are Terriers,
They hunt prey. They kill prey.
They love Bunny rabbits, Chickens, Cats, soft toys and shoes they just do …
We are located in Victoria and really only want to place our dogs with owners in Victoria… If you are interstate and can show great commitment and adoration for the bred you will be considered.
We are not able to discuss sales of pups until they are microchipped as per DSE Vic rules.
We really want to meet new owners and you will be expected to travel here to pick up your pup… We will not freight ….
