What I see when I candle eggs! I usually candle on day 3 so that I can feed the non fertile eggs back to the chookies. Even then I can already see a little eye and a flickering heartbeat!

Huey has really turned into the ultimate babysitter.

I first popped him in with the babies a few months ago after he decided that the working life was not for him any more and he hadn’t produced any fertile eggs in a year.

He was so freaked out by the babies he would scream and peck them when they came near 😂

He now spends all day standing outside the grower pen, supervising the youngest bubs and telling them where the food is, and cuddling up with his 2 favourites at night to keep them warm.

Trying to sort which white pullets to keep and sell and it’s very hard 🤣 I keep putting keep tags on them all 🤣

7 day old foetus actively swimming around - you can see the umbilical cord perfectly too ❤️

Healthy, happy silkies should be scratching around, dirt bathing and making a general mess of themselves and your yard. If they aren’t, please pick them up and examine their keel bones, crop, eyes, nose and butt to make sure they are healthy little fluffs. Don’t forget to make sure they can see with regular Pom trims!

So sad when the rooster comes to his name more reliably than the dogs. No wonder he’s the favourite 😂

Home from the show! As per usual there wasn’t enough carriers as the boys don’t like sharing, so Snuggy called shotgun. He made himself very comfortable and sat with his neck stretched out for maximal neck rubs the whole 1.5 hours there and back 😂 4 x 1sts and Champion Silkie, so they did really well. Also was good to catch up with the other chicken mommas as we are a bit of a different breed 🤣
